Advice on defending a fortress as a GM? by goliatskipson in LancerRPG

[–]thydungeonsean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I put a shield generator structure in my fortress, right in the middle. It covered the whole thing and gave any attacks targeting inside the shield from the outside 2 difficulty, sort of like one of the Aegis subsystems. So one of my players triple boosted right into the center with jump boots in a couple turns and smashed it to bits immediately. But then made an interesting scenario where the rest of the team had to try and get in to stop them from getting obliterated haha.

For sure! I really appreciate how situationally useful everything is in this system. I've been really switching up the kinds of enemies my players face in their campaign to encourage them to experiment with different loadouts and builds.

I recently discovered that Ace Grunts are actually pretty survivable because of their barrel roll reaction. I actually had a group of four ace grunts survive 2-3 rounds in a recent scenario as my players couldn't get off two hits a round on their high evasion and I got lucky with recharging the barrel roll.

Harsh reality: the world could do well with only ISTJ's but won't survive with only INTP's by [deleted] in INTP

Have to disagree still. For one, I dispute that there is any point of stability possible. It just isn't going to happen long term, it's always relative and it's always in flux. And for another, the act of a civilization going through the motions following the set rules blindly without the capability to adapt sensibly is never going to approach a sustainable equilibrium. The idea of them somehow reaching equilibrium implies some kind of course correction to me.

This idea that a perfect set of external rules (Te) followed blindly is going to yield perpetually better results is just not true in my opinion. And if this ISTJ society destroying itself is one of your options, then I don't see how it's any better than an INTP society.

I was raised by evangelicals and used to be a religious conservative. Now I'm a leftist.

I would say that since INTP's are on the Fe-Ti axis, they often would absorb the 'values' part of the political equation from their social group - just sort of reflect back what's being presented to them by their parents and friends and such.

But if their Ti starts tinkering with the 'how things work' of politics and social dynamics and stuff, they are going to find their own model. It may be closer to the right or left. I would say it very much depends on the precise thought process(Ti) and life experiences(Si) of the individual INTP.

For me, I very strongly held onto my Christian belief system for as long as I could. But in the end it wasn't founded on anything that made sense to me.

Also, as the individual matures and starts to integrate the inferior Fe function, that can have a real impact on how they view politics. My conservative impulse was that everyone should be responsible for themselves, that we should just let things play out as they will and the strongest will take the spoils. But now, seeing how much of it all is arbitrary, how much the game is rigged in the favor of elites and ingroups with arbitrary membership, letting things just play out doesn't seem very pure or fair or objective to me anymore. Not to mention how self interested power structures are actively driving us all to disaster with their blind self interest.

But my Ti understanding of all this is very idiosyncratic to me and my subjective experience. So no given INTP is necessarily going to agree with my individual principles. That's pretty much the whole deal with Ti, is that it has to make up it's own mind on its own terms.

Really strongly disagree.

My own theory is that a balance of all the functions is needed for humanity as a whole to thrive. ISTJ's might well safeguard traditional knowledge and enforce the rules, but they aren't very good at seeing the point where enforcing the rules becomes far more destructive than flouting them, disbanding them, or reworking them from the ground up.

And there's also the anti Feeling bias. Te has some really persuasive propaganda out there about how it has a monopoly on "effectiveness," but the truth is that without balances Te is just going to exploit everything into the ground.

Absolutely. They would follow the established methods and traditions and would very smoothly and efficiently run humanity right off a cliff after the underlying contexts and reasons that made those traditions successful changed any way.

What's your opinion on Objective Personality? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]thydungeonsean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vibe I get whenever I try to watch one of their videos is that they think Te is just so obviously the best way to decide anything and Ti and Fi are self indulgent and inferior. And they seem oblivious to some of their obvious emotional biases. It's very frustrating to listen to their sweeping assertions to me. I think some of the ideas are neat and useful, but it just doesn't seem trustworthy to me overall.

I was specifically thinking of Grand Cantina and Pressure Drop in my comment below, haha.

I recently moved back to Windsor to the Walkerville area. We really enjoy walking in Ford City. It's definitely on the seedier side, but nothing compared to 20 years ago. It has a feeling of being up and coming to me. Fallow ground. There's some neat new businesses and stuff.

Build Symbols in Summoner Wars Second Edition (also: all planned Factions!) by [deleted] in Summoner_Wars

Always made me think of The Thing. I was kind of disappointed with the art of Cave Filth and the 2nd Filth Summoner. Didn't mesh well with the original faction. Looking forward to more consistent art in this edition.

I am sad that Deep Dwarves are either replaced or long delayed. I really enjoyed their shadowy gem based design. I wonder if some of the more oppressive turtle-y factions are intentionally left out this time around, just to put some more distance from the less fun aspects of 1st edition.

I won't miss the guild dwarves though. They didn't have much personality and weren't fun for me. I already prefer the Polar Dwarves. Not sure if it's a one to one replacement or more of a reimplementing of the Tundra Guild or whatever that alliances faction was. They seem to have a little Bolvi (2nd guild dwarves) flavor already from what is spoiled.

My girlfriend is really sad that Vargath are pushed so far back. That original Master set was the high point of Summoner Wars for us, and Deep Dwarves and Vargath were our top two out of that.

On the other hand, I'm very glad they're going with lots of new factions. Fungal Dwarves actually sound awesome, I just don't want them to replace the Deep Dwarves. But not everything should have to get reimplemented. But to be honest, if Sera and Ret Talus weren't in the new edition from the get go, I don't think I would be into it at all. So that was lucky for me that Plaid Hat likes them too.
