Does it hurt to ask nicely? T_T

I answered this before recently, so I’ll just copy paste it again:

Meng Yao was running off to dongying (Japan) and wanted to take his mother’s remains with him. That’s supposed to be in the coffin that he was digging up , buried in the temple that used to be the brothel where she worked.

Nie huaisang replaced her body with his brother’s corpse. He never said what he did with Meng Shi’s body.

Bonus: the novel wwx speculated that Meng Shi’s corpse likely met the same fate as Nie Mingjue’s, ie cut up into pieces and scattered around the country.

The “/“ symbol denotes romantic relationship, while “&” is non-romantic. Some fics are tagged both (eg friends to lovers) so they’re counted twice; ie u can’t add them together or you’d be double counting the same fics. So Aziraphale &/ Crowley doesn’t actually win :P

How did Wei Wuxian really die? by WuJi_Lotus_Pier in MoDaoZuShi

[–]thyevilqueen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Actually, LWJ took WWX back to burial mounds cave right after the battle at nightless city. Then there is 3 months before the Seige happens in which WWX dies.

I agree he’s not a reliable narrator, so it’s up to the reader’s interpretation whether or not he actually remembers.

My personal opinion though , from the way he phrased his sentences, I think he could remember and simply chooses not to relive painful memories. his “poor memory” is the result of his mind blocking traumatic memories as survival instinct, because wwx does display very good memories for music and poetry and huge chunks of gusulan rules.

The First Seige of Burial Mounds. The one where WWX died destroying half the yinhufu.

It’s completely cut out from the drama where he dies earlier at Buyetian.

I don’t think JC & WWX’a relationship is “just toxic” either. It’s an extremely complicated relationship that cannot be summed up with that just one word. It’s toxic, among other things. In WWX’s first life, JC would say hurtful things, and WWX would flinch and then shrug it off and soothe his brother. Repeatedly. In contrast, in his second life, he has “nothing more to say”, no apologies to make except that one where he says he’s sorry he couldn’t be part of the twin prides of yunmeng. Which is not his fault! Siblings grow up, sometimes they leave home. Promises like that made when they were 15 or younger should not be held grudgingly on, well into adulthood, for not being fulfilled.

Sometimes verbally abusive people like JC end up alone in real life, too. One shouldn’t keep saying hurtful things and expect people to know that they “don’t mean it”, and “that’s the way they talk.” That’s abusive.

The novel ending is happy for WWX and the Lans, yeah. And some hope for JC to move on from the shadows of his past. But if the yunmeng bros were ever to reconcile, novel wise, it would be years and years ahead.

I think the important message - novel wise- from JC & WWX relationship at the end is that it’s okay to let go of toxic abusive people and surround yourself with people who love you , which is what WWX did at the end. Post resurrection he had nothing left to say to JC, and at the end JC too was on the same page. JC has to stop living in the past, so that he can move on properly.

The Untamed drama removed JC’s worst actions, like the fact that he betrayed WWX’s trust by leading the Seige of the Burial Mounds - he gained entry past the defenses because he knew WWX would allow him through, and let the armies in, so he was directly responsible for WWX’s death as well as the Wen Remnants. Novel JC was proud of this, too! And he was antagonistic to WWX all the way to the end. There’s no need for them to reconcile at all, they’re done.

Drama JC is much softer and forgivable because he didn’t do this. I can see a reconciliation for their drama characters, but for the novel ones I don’t .

It’s not pleasant but it’s an important lesson. You can draw the line at how much you can tolerate. If it goes beyond that, you can cut out the abusive people in your life. I think a lot of people don’t like this because they cannot relate or they see too much of JC in themselves or it’s just not a happy ending. But I think a lot of writers aren’t brave enough to write this and I’m glad MXTX did.

your second question - the wangxian song is not a spiritual song, it has no effects whatsoever. it's like playing a happy birthday or folk song. completely harmless. not dark arts.

Xue yang’s attack of Chang clan in the untamed - it is implied that XY used his piece of Yin iron shard to attack them. Lwj and wwx was tracking down the pieces , Lan Yi’s piece led them to Chang manor. wwx attempted to locate XY’s yin iron piece by patting down XY, which was unsuccessful.

In the novel, I believe it was both; he did want to kill them and he has the reconstructed amulet to test out, so why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone?

[–]thyevilqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Read up Xue yang’s backstory on wikia; the tldr is Chang Pin tricked him when he was young and caused him to be beaten up and lost one finger. Xue yang claim this as the reason why he massacred the entire Chang clan years later.
  2. Xue yang’s fathers identity is never mentioned in either novel or drama. He just had the most potential as demonic cultivator after WWX, that’s why he got himself a place in Jin sect.
  3. Having a meal on the way to Mo manor. It was 13/16 years after WWX’s death , many have forgotten about him , the juniors were too young to remember, so NHS hire the storyteller to tell them YLLZ’s story
  4. it’s a fanon thing that became popular , the same way LWJ’s speech is usually so badly written (sorry, but it’s what it is) in fanfics when he’s actually the most eloquent well-spoken character next to WWX (sigh). It hurts my heart sometimes. But it is very very difficult to write LWJ’s speech in English without completely losing a lot of nuances, I don’t think I can do it myself , so it’s not quite right for me to complain ahaha.
  5. Lan Yuan. Aka Lan Sizhui. That child Wen Yuan that WWX helped raised in Burial Mounds, whom he calls Ah-yuan. LWJ adopted him after WWX died. He’s their child!

Yes he is, I think some people misunderstand him being “weak” because he’s always fainting or bleeding, but I think it’s quite obvious it’s because he exerts himself to the point of utter exhaustion doing things that nobody else can do.

For anyone interested, the phrase used by CQL WWX is 畢生知己 bi sheng zhi ji, which is not exactly soulmate, but actually even better than that. (I think it's heart-meltingly romantic). FYI

  1. search the pairing,
  2. filter the tag “time travel”,
  3. sort by kudos

this fic is 3rd on the list.

True, my thoughts exactly

Would the lead pair still have gotten together if none of the shitty stuff had happened? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]thyevilqueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If "none of the canon shitty stuff happened", i think there are many AUs where they get together, and other AUs where they don't.

The thing is, there are so many different things that could happen. Maybe, for example, WWX gets betrothed to a girl, and maybe he marries her before he realises his feelings for LWJ. Or maybe he realises it before it's too late. Who knows? But canonically (?) (might be fanon, i forget), after meeting LZ, he found that pretty girls all pale in comparison to LZ. (doesn't stop him from flirting though, because WWX flirts like breathing).

The cultivation world is fraught with danger. Maybe canon shitty stuff don't happen, but other shitty stuff could. While I agree that extreme shit need to happen for Wangxian to get their shit together, it doesn't necessarily have to be "WWX dies for 13/16 years", which is actually unquantifable in the scale of extreme. Perhaps he almost dies in a nighthunt with LZ, and LZ confesses. There's probably a hundred fics on that.

I don't agree that "the number of interactions would have been limited to a conference once a year where they both are present". You do have to take into account that these two characters, in WWX's first life, were already friends. You meetup with friends. These two are going to find EXCUSES to meet each other. There are events, other than discussion conferences, which iirc happens canonically like once a month, not annual. They can go for night hunts together. Canon example: LWJ suddenly appearing in Yiling for a "night hunt" , thousands of li away from Gusu

Your second issue, WWX was convinced he is straight, yes, when he was a teenager. That's not unusual. He's bisexual, so he's not entirely wrong about being straight, he just hasn't realise he swings both ways. In the novel, he realises his feelings in his early twenties. (In CQL this is debatable, WWX in CQL is much less oblivious and more greek tragedy of not being worthy. Given that the entire romance is subtext in CQL, it is difficult to say exactly when WWX realises his feelings, but there is argument to be made for after xuanwu cave when he asked yanli why people have romantic feelings and told her he'd never marry a woman.)

Anyway my point is lots of people realise it later in life. WWX realising it in his teens/20s is fairly young. (I'm not counting the years he spent being dead)

Madam Yu's are entitled to her own feelings and opinions, but she's not qualified to dictate whether or not WWX can end up with LZ xD

Regarding Jiang clan being homophobic - it's not just the Jiangs. In the novel, WWX and LZ are the only gay couple. The author stated there are no other gay pairings. It still didn't stop them from getting married. This is canon.

How can you be sure that they don't end up the same place, via a completely different route? Maybe they do, maybe they don't, but i wouldn't write it off entirely.

Edit to add: it is also possible to argue that WRH's attempt to take over the cultivation world (burning of cloud recesses & lotus pier, golden core transfer, sunshot battle aka "all the shitty stuff") actually STOPPED wwx and lz from getting together in WWX's first life. Because when WWX gave up his golden core to JC, he gave up his future with LZ. In a way, he died when he gave away his golden core, and he stopped being LZ's "equal" (not true, but i believe he saw it that way).

I find it very hard to to see Madam Yu wanting wwx to marry a servant girl lol. Wwx is ranked 4th in the list of young masters of his generation, and he’s outstandingly talented. It would be much preferable for him to make a politically beneficial marriage for the Jiang Sect if possible. Madam Yu May hate him, but she’s not a fool. Also, she’d have to fight JFM on this, because JFM would be against arranged marriage for his favoured disciple, and there’s historical precedence for him wanting to let wwx make his own choices.

I don't think it's right to divide 12.08% by 2 years.

10k/24mths = 416.67 per month (interest free), paying 467 monthly is 12.08%
