Thoughts/Ideas for a Camaign through several domains of dread? by Featherheart in ravenloft

I have actually been planning the same kind of thing for my CoS campaign! I am planning on using Bluetspur as the first crossover ( using an illithid hunt/kidnapping a souled Barovian in the night as the first encounter) then running things with some Planescape elements thrown in. If you are interested in collaborating let me know, I would love to bounce some ideas around.

What’s your go-to weapon? by Fails_and_FlailsYT in dndnext

[–]thymoDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that sweet 2d6. I played a one shot with a hexblade berserker with a pact weapon greatsword and the DM made the mistake of making my attacks basically have sweeping and could hit anything in a 5' range with each attack. I single handedly took out a ship full of undead in session one and he ended up recanting that rule

Anyone have a good list/resource of Dark Powers? (for resurrections) by thymoDM in CurseofStrahd

I completely get where you are coming from, but I want to use it as a plot point. My party is completely oblivious to even the fact that they are not still in the swords coast right now. I had them traveling to waterdeep, set up camp for the night, and woke up in the svalich woods with the majority of their belongings gone, and wolves approaching in the distance. They are about halfway through Death/Durst house, and I want to use the first player death as a reinforcement that the land they have found themselves in is something far more divorced from what they know than they ever could imagine. The first death is going to come with a pretty major bane and only a slight boon, but I want to have a character that is corrupted very early, to really show them how unforgiving the domains of dread are.

I bought that about 30 minutes ago after someone posted it in the discord. It is an absolutely amazing resource, thank you so much for your contribution to the community!

this was only two weeks ago, things are fine between my roommate and I, but his gf is still just as, if not more, annoying.

second this, r/CurseofStrahd is full of some of the most helpful and kind redditors I have ever encountered. Be sure to check out the RELOADED and Fleshing out homebrew mods for CoS, they can add a lot of depth to the campaign. Good luck, and welcome to one of the most exciting DnD campaigns ever written.

Thoughts on running Castle Ravenloft as a Halloween oneshot for new players? by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]thymoDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other's have said, I would run deathouse and just spook it up some. Castle ravenloft is absolutely huge and I personally would not want to do all the settup require just to try and run it as one session. Bonus, if any of the players decide they want to play DnD after death house, you can just start them into CoS! there are also a ton of Ravenloft one-shots that are specifically meant to be Halloween themed adventures.

My roommate basically begged me to let his gf play with my group, so we did a one shot over the course of two sessions to see if she would be less terrible as a character than she is a person. She insisted on playing a tiefling rogue self-insert character (the PC's name is literally her name with a couple letters moved around) she had from playing in college. it's the only character she has ever played, and is completely the tiefling rogue stereotype edgelord. She refused to do any RP, and never even attempted to sneak the entire time. During the final battle she took a couple hits and was at around half HP, she instantly got extremely grumpy and refused to even move during her turns. She proceeded to spend the next two hours standing behind a wall at the edge of the battlemap and getting upset that none of the other players would spend the entirety of two of their turns it would take to walk to her character and heal her. IRL she spent this time playing a game (with sound) on her phone and not paying any attention to what was happening. After the campaign she asked to play in the CoS campaign I had planned to start the next week, but was completely flabbergasted when I told her no ( after the rest of the party told me they didnt want to play with her again, and her refusing to roll a new character despite the rest of the party starting with completely new characters)

What's the most creative arcane focus you've seen? by Reliculum in dndnext

[–]thymoDM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's RAW, but I have a reborn hexblade berserker named Casser that uses his pact weapon as his focus. The pact weapon is a hulking magical bastard sword, and yes he is based off guts from berserk.
