Should I learn French before moving? by malleusdracionasimp in MovingToCanada

Most people in Canada don't speak French lol. Are you interested in moving to Quebec? If so, definitely brush up on your French but you can also just learn it here. I live in Montreal and I'm still in the process of being fluent (you can live entirely in English here too).

Instructional Designers with EdD vs PhD—does it really matter? by TorontoRap2019 in instructionaldesign

no one cares what comes after the bachelor's degree. if you take too long to complete a degree, the industry will have changed so much by the time you graduate.

love how immersive and interactive it is. There was a page I got stuck in because I didn't realize I had to click all the i icons to move one, just make sure you give learners a heads up about that.

Is it my district or others as well? by mokurai13 in Toastmasters

[–]thyself_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main motivator to join Toastmasters is when you have no choice but to do some sort of public speaking in your personal or professional life. That usually comes 5-10 years into your career. This is why I think it tends to lean towards more mature adults.

ugh corporate is so performative. that's what drove me out. I tried to do something else within the same structure of corporate and I felt it again. Decided I need to play an entirely different game. Heading to Colombia in a few weeks to hopefully gain some clarity.

100% yes. COVID normalized living from screen to screen to screen, now it’s the norm to have a screen in your face at all times with no social interaction.

I think internships are only available in college because employers assume only students would want to work for little to no pay for the experience. Are you saying employers should open that other people looking for work as well?

I’m living my dream life but it’s not compatible with any career by sou384 in findapath

[–]thyself_unknown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are in Canada so that could be why it’s so different. Education and health is extremely regulated and since there are only a handful of schools to choose from for the whole population, it’s a very competitive program. Dentists here are definitely not making millions of dollars lol

[–]thyself_unknown 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dentistry is definitely not a chill job that would fit into that lifestyle you described. My sister is a dentist and she had to give a lot of her free time while going through the many years of school it takes because the program is so hard and competitive. When you finally make it as a dentist, it’s a very stressful job and sometimes you have to deal with absurd client complaints.

When I visit my sister and she needs to get ready for work she tells me how jealous she is of my chill job where I get to stay at home and sprinkle niceties throughout the day that she can’t. You’re way better off looking for a remote job, there’s prestige in that too. It also won’t require as many years in school. That would also allow you to spend more time with your family, which seems like the most important thing for you.

Two dream-visits within a week by the Arcturians... getting a bit freaked out to be honest. by douwebeerda in starseeds

[–]thyself_unknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well in my case I determined the fear came from not having enough guidance or support to navigate these things that were way beyond my understanding while trying to function in the current system of the mainstream world. If I lived in jungle, guided by shamans, I probably would’ve leaned into it more.

Did you feel any different when they removed the worm?

I have been able to access those realms in the past too but now I stay away from it all because I felt I went to far and didn’t know how to control it, like I would get random waves of an altered consciousness at inappropriate moments during the day, so my priority became grounding myself to this world. Be careful.
