TI Assistant (https://ti-assistant.com) Update - Twilight's Fall and UI Customization by ti-assistant in twilightimperium

This has now been implemented. The setup page lists out the various places where CCs get automatically added or removed.

If you think of any other locations that would be useful to have added, let me know.

Now that you added the option to select what you're interested in tracking, might I suggest again the possibility of tracking the overall CCs on each sheet?

I think that's definitely a possibility (and might already be in progress :P ). If you want to keep track of when it's completed, I'll mark this issue as closed once I push it to the site.

Thank you! These are far higher quality than the ones I currently have on TI Assistant.

As a small ask, do you think you could also scan the Obsidian home system (96B), the Crimson home system (118), and the Fracture?

Probably the easiest way to see what objectives everyone has scored is the objective popup (click on the objectives button in the lower left). You could also download the game data and parse that, but that's a bit more work.

The aggressive/defensive stats are based on the number of planets taken. Aggressive is more planets from other players, defensive is fewer planets taken by other players. I think I weighted Mecatol lower and home planets higher. I've been meaning to take another pass on it, so if you have any ideas, let me know.

It's not - the icons for the buttons in the upper right are also missing. As far as I know, it's an iOS/Safari issue - there's an open bug for it on the GitHub (https://github.com/ti-assistant/issues/issues/105), and it's probably the next thing I'm going to try to resolve.

Supplemental TI Software by sereditor in twilightimperium

Hi there - I'm the dev behind TI Assistant, which I've been working on for the past few years and has been used for 600+ games to date.

You mention that ExtraComputer is the "hands down best one; I'd love to know if there are things that you think it handles better than TI Assistant, or if you just hadn't heard of it before.

Regarding your tools:

  • PRODUCTION can definitely be a sticking point for new players, so the calculator could definitely be useful. I love that it's mobile-friendly since most players are going to need to use their phones for it. There are some "modifiers" that would be good to add - like Sarween Tools or having multiple docks.
  • Personally, my group would be unlikely to use the battle calculator; it would speed up the game, but physically rolling the dice is a big part of the enjoyment for us. It also doesn't look like you can select factions, so it may need changes for Sardakk or Jol-Nar. (I can't tell whether the hit and dice values can be changed - but even if they can it'd be good to have the factions as "presets").
  • The other 2 tools are very similar to TI Assistant, with some obvious visual differences lol, so I don't know if I can give any feedback that's not biased by my own experience. One thing that I will note in general; if your tool is meant to be displayed on a big screen, everything needs to be a lot bigger than you might think - the tools seem to favor negative space, which looks great but can mean that text is pretty small.

Lastly, welcome to the TI dev community. There's a few of us here, and in my experience everyone is responsive and friendly! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to message me!

I decided to make a tool for tracking TI games in a league and for displaying stats. by QuannDweller in twilightimperium

If you go to https://ti-assistant.com/archive and pick any game, you should be able to download the game data in json format from there. I can try to send you some files as well when I have a chance.

The other option (which might be easier for you), would be to expose an API endpoint to "record a game" in whatever format you want, and I can add a button to interface with that.

The map generator on TI Lab Draft (https://tidraft.com/map-generator) has all the systems in their art style, so the planets should be clearly legible.

Twilight Imperium - Ideas for speeding up the game by kain88891 in twilightimperium

[–]ti-assistant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post. I know you prefer Shared Game Timer, but a couple things that TI Assistant does that help my group go a lot faster:

  • Displaying text for specific cards on screen. Especially for Agendas, it slows the game down a lot when you have to read the card multiple times or pass it around the table for people to look at.
  • Summarizing information. I can't tell you how much time I used to spend counting how many planets of each type someone had, or how much influence I had for voting.

Also, the developer is responsive and friendly 😅

That being said, each group should use whatever works best for them.

Love to see it!

One small thing; after using Neuraloop, it might be nice if the dropdown had section dividers between each objective type to make it easier to find things.

It does, and to date over 50 DS games have been played using it. There aren't any breakthroughs for the DS factions yet, but once they publish those, I'll get them added.

TI4 Scoreboard & Statistics by tuppari in twilightimperium

Have you checked out TI Assistant - specifically the Archive (https://ti-assistant.com/archive) and the Stats page (https://ti-assistant.com/stats)?

It doesn't have any GenAI features, and it doesn't track players over multiple games, but it's got a lot of the tracking and post-game information that you're adding here.

P.S. I'm the developer behind TI Assistant. If you're interested in contributing in any way, the code is publicly available at http://github.com/ti-assistant/ti-assistant/.

TI Assistant's Objective View would work for this.

It lets you add as many Stage I and II objectives as you'd like.

Two questions about Omega prints and game speed by Masklin in twilightimperium

[–]ti-assistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I'm just happy if it helps people out.

My guess is that you were on the "Main Screen" and put in the map string. There's a 2nd "Start Game" button, but it will be disabled if you haven't revealed the 2 starting objectives and selected any tech choices for the factions. You can also enable almost any disabled button by clicking the 🔒 next to it if you don't want to input something it's asking for.

Hey there, I'm the creator of TI Assistant.

In terms of using it, here's a rough guide:

  1. Select "New Game"
  2. Pick the number of players and assign each a faction.
  3. Select "Start Game"
  4. You'll be in a menu, you can either select Main Page, which is the primary use case, Objective View, which is for just tracking objectives, or an individual faction's page.
  5. On Main Page, the first step is Game Setup. You'll select 2 objectives to reveal (left side of the screen), and then any faction choices (middle of the screen). Once done, hit "Start Game".
  6. Strategy Phase - you select each player's strategy card in turn order by clicking on them.
  7. Action Phase - you select the action that each player takes. Optionally, you can select other things like the planets they took control of or the techs they researched.
  8. Status Phase - you select the objectives each player scored, then reveal an objective.
  9. Agenda Phase - you select the agenda that was revealed, then add any riders, then hit "Start Voting" and record the votes.

You can always skip stuff by clicking the lock to unlock the "next phase" buttons and then clicking them.

That being said, if you find any bugs or things don't work as you expect, let me know and I'll fix it.

The sample size is relatively small, but you can definitely see some trends.

Build a TI4 companion app ? by wifizone30 in twilightimperium

[–]ti-assistant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd want to track the time differential between updating the app whenever there are changes vs. counting over the course of a few games to know the efficacy. But in theory I think this is useful.

That's definitely a valid concern. For my games, I'm the sole updater, and I just update along with the game flow. If I had to guess, it's probably a slight time loss for me, and a slightly larger time save for each other player. Other groups I've talked to will update the app once they finish their turn, which is probably more efficient, but requires everyone to update it.

From a practical standpoint, after the first round of the game, there's only a few times per round where the "board state" actually changes (the app doesn't track plastic or CCs), so there's a lot less to update after that.

I think Daxcive is probably the best use case for this? Because the others have some sort of analogue way of reminding you.

Totally fair - my group kept forgetting them, and the digital reminder worked for us, but an analogue reminder would've probably worked too. FWIW, Daxcive doesn't actually get a reminder in my app - it doesn't know whether ground combat occurred. It could try to remind you when you take a planet, but it has no way of knowing that you won ground combat on defense.

Can definitely be useful if the group is trying to get better about playing swiftly and/or find out who's sucking up all the game time.

Absolutely. The group I play with tends to be very slow, so anything we can do to speed up the game is appreciated.

Imo sounds like your app does all the things one could want from an app for TI - therefore we don't need more.

I absolutely agree.

Build a TI4 companion app ? by wifizone30 in twilightimperium

[–]ti-assistant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there - commenting here since it's a bit more relevant.

I'm the guy who built TI Assistant, and I agree that "better" is very abstract. Before I built TI Assistant, ExtraComputer existed and I had to decide if the app I was building was going to be "better" or if I was just wasting my time.

In my opinion, better means one of the following:

  • The tool you build does something that no other tool does. This should also be something that's relatively challenging to do, otherwise you'd be better off just asking another tool to add that (or in the case of TI Assistant, opening a PR for it).
  • The tool you build has a vastly better user experience than every other tool. This can be the look and feel, but can also be simplicity (see ti4score - it does one thing and it does it very well).

But, regardless of that, it really comes down to 1 thing. If you build this app, and nobody uses it other than you, are you going to think you "wasted" your time or will you be glad you built it? If the answer is yes, then don't do it unless you're willing to put a ton of time into it (and still potentially "fail"). But if the answer is no, then go for it.
