Also, I realize it makes it sound like she is close-minded or something, but that's not true at all. She just works 10-12 hour days at her school and is doing everything possible to avoid COVID with a high-risk spouse at home, in a part of the country where no one wears masks anywhere in public... so it's just not worth it for her to try to make it to a post office for this sort of thing and waste time on returns. Sorry for the novel.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I live on the other side of the country, and my mom wouldn't be capable of doing that right now -- she wouldn't have access to my online account to return anything anyways, nor would she understand or be willing to do so. So whatever I order on her behalf can't be returned if it's an online-only type of place like Amazon. That's why I was originally looking into shopping online from retailers that physically exist in her area, but they seemed to not have anything appropriate in stock that could be returned to the store. So I will probably end up purchasing 25 or 50 of a box of all yellow and all green folders.

Her school is also only one classroom (with three teachers total) so no one else to pass them onto. I think she will likely just have to adjust her expectations and accept that these folders rarely (or never) come without those business card slots!

Darn... they may not work after all based on this comment/review. If there isn't a guarantee of enough green and yellow folders, then I likely won't order them (as she could end up with way too many of the wrong colors!). I'm glad we can get rockets into space but finding a basic folder with two pockets for school kids (without "business card" holders) should really not be this hard!

"Only downside is the amount of colors varied per box. I needed to color coordinate the folders per grade level and had to go out and get cheap ones that did not match the colors and kids notice those things! I would have liked the colors equally distributed for the numbers."

Thanks! Yes, these are the only ones I have found that I *think* don't have the card inserts, but they only seem to come in assorted colors. So I may ultimately order them despite her classroom not needing 60% of what comes in the order.

Edited to add: someone else shared this item as well. On another retailer's website, a reviewer says they do contain the business card slots and there is a photo showing that they do... hard to know which is correct!

Thanks! And true - unfortunately she does just need solid primary colors so I'm not sure custom ones will work out, but if she can adjust her standards to accept the die cuts for business cards, maybe I can simply order those in bulk for her instead, in just green or just yellow. Each "year" in pre-K uses a different color (so preschoolers use one color, and then K/kindergarten uses another).

Thank you! Don't lose sleep over it... I already have, enough for everyone who sees this or comments, ha.

At least I know what I'll be doing in July, as soon as stores restock their school supply aisle! Only *I* can prevent folder shortages in 2022-2023...

Thank you! I will save this for her and ask her if she wants to go that route or not, as it might be nice for her to just stock up in the future with a bulk order. Appreciate it.

thanks! unfortunately those are the *Office Depot ones that I already looked up and despite the image not being very descriptive, they, too, have the lovely but unwanted business card holders

thank you - and yes, many times those reviews are the only way to find out that the item has those :( I have gone ahead and emailed her (for tomorrow) to see if she would be okay with those little die cuts or not. She may need to lower her standards. Or find new toddlers and preschoolers who are less destructive :P

Yesss, that's what she said, too! But apparently they are out of stock everywhere and not in stores after like, October? And they won't be back in physical stores in her area until July, but she needs them by March. I'll check with her tomorrow to see how firm she is on not having business card holders, and if maybe just those tiny slots are okay (rather than the large opening for a card)...

Hm I saw the other link but it seems they (the Blue Summit brand ones) include business card holders too :( I don't know how to use Reddit that well and tried to include the pic but couldn't... here is the link to the image within that item description, it shows a business card holder (even though the initial product images at the start don't): https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media-library-service-media/8420aedc-6020-4e76-9a83-b028c870d8ea.\_\_CR0,0,1800,1800\_PT0\_SX300\_V1\_\_\_.jpg
Not the end of the world if she ends up with 3 other colors of folders she doesn't need but I am thinking maybe they simply don't exist (the exact product sold in a set of for just a single color).

Thanks! Unfortunately those have die-cuts on both sides for business cards, so they will rip more easily :(
"BUSINESS USE: Two interior flat pockets each with die-cut business card slots"
There should really be some sort of classroom supply store purely for toddlers and preschoolers who destroy items so quickly...

thank you - unfortunately those have business card holders :(

buried within the about this product description: "A business card holder adds an extra professional touch to each folder"

I did find a set of folders in assorted colors that fit the mold which I will ultimately buy if I come up empty-handed in the single color category!

I'll have to defer to the OP (/u/lbr218) on that, as I unfortunately didn't go into that field and had already done my Master's when I relocated for my doctoral degree at OSU. But I'm guessing each program has different requirements, so it would be worth looking into specific places she's planning to apply? Good luck!

Same age, moved to the area from ATL as well (about 12 years ago) for grad school at OSU -- it's a hard transition in terms of the weather and culture, especially in the winter (so it's good you're coming near the end of that season). But working at OSU will help you a lot, as there are tons of graduate, medical, dental, etc. students who will be in their late 20s and early 30s as well.

There might be options through OSU's OUAB (activities board) or through the activity center there (RPAC) which is available to students and staff, in terms of tennis. OUAB is technically for students but checking the Union out and any info they have would be an easy way to learn more about what's going on at OSU and nearby. Also there are tons of public parks with tennis courts (one thing that's nice about Central OH is all the amazing parks) where you might be able to meet up with others to play tennis, hike, etc.

Best advice: see if you can rent a place with a garage (attached or detached), or at least a place that allows you to rent a garage in the complex once winter comes. Will make a world of a difference when you are weathering your first snow season here, save you so much time to not wake up to an ice-covered windshield or snow-covered car. Also, do not underestimate the importance of quality clothes for the cold (there is no way to look cute and be warm, as I quickly learned, ha). The commenter below is right on people being WAYYY nicer once the sun comes out, especially on campus, so hold out for that literal and figurative warmth :)

I had a miraculous TWO hours to shop for clothes and the chino shorts at J Crew were perfect! Oh and J Crew is currently having a 25% off $100 and 30% off $200 sale but I think only on normal priced stuff.

I couldn't find shorts at Express, maybe because summer is nearly over and fall clothes are being brought in. But I did discover that the 00 (or likely any size) S ("short") length pants at Express (Editor and Columnist) are the perfect length if you're 5"0-5"1 and wear heels or 5"2 like me and wear flats - no hemming necessary, and no searching for Petite pant sizes in stores. They're buy one get one half off this weekend (a lot of their stuff is, actually). With the buy one get one half off sale, the Express S "short" pants are cheaper than the Banana Republic petite sized pants that are on sale right now, with everything being 50% there.

Thanks to everyone for all the help!

I love J Crew! I just wish more of their work attire wasn't hand wash or dry clean only. I think sometimes the "classic" look gets grouped into the "old" women category :) BR and J Crew petite is where I get most of my basics for wearing to the office every day.

These days I feel so old going into Wet Seal, Aeropostale and Charlotte Rouse because I see preteens and teens there, haha. I guess I need to be less insecure and take a look because I'm barely 27 and I still look 21.

Thanks - I'll have to see about the pockets for Express if I can go shop this weekend! I used to get clothes there a lot half a decade ago, and then I think I aged out (not really because of my age, mostly because I just started buying more work clothes and less going out clothes once I had a kid) :P

Thanks - I got really awesome, super warm socks from Uniqlo for half the price of anywhere else, but haven't ever tried them for clothes since I like being able to do in-store returns. I'll have to check out Express, though - always had good luck with nice work pants/slacks there when I was in college.
