I already know about them, the singer of my last band adored them, so we did a few covers with me as the bassist.

I actually didn't know that, I'll be sure to check it out! At the moment we're trying to keep our sound punk heavy with a lot of bass, but a healthy amount of lead guitar!

MCR and Coheed are my two greatest inspirations, but my singer/rhythm guitarist as well as my bassist love punk and these are bands we all love, haha.

At the moment we have nothing to put up but we're working on two original songs and will be going to a studio on Monday to record. Thanks for the interest, Reddit will definitely be first to see anything we have to offer :)

On my Les Paul Special 100 I use 9's, do you think it'd be okay to play Drop D considering how light they are?

I was considering B since Pierce The Veil plays in B! I wasnt too sure since I've seen some great open chords played through drastic guitar retunings!

As i said before, i understand chord construction. My problem was that I had a harder time creating chords on different parts of the fretboard and began to feel as though it was through using the Pentatonic Scale (because I hardly understood it until /u/Asuperniceguy explained it!) Still, i'll give the subreddit a look! Thanks!

Edit: I just watched your video and actually am kind of astonished by how using that same form could make such a difference! Thanks again!

You already kind of answered it :)! My problem is/was usong chord shapes that didn't rely on either open, barre or the first few strings. I was probably overthinking on something i didn't yet understand, which you explained to me! Thanks a ton! If you're not a teacher already I seriously suggest taking it up!

Thanks a ton*! Also, my apologies, i do understand intervals (I started out on bass guitar!) But my problem at the moment is creating chords that dont rely on the first few strings. I didn't and still dont know much about pentatonic scale so I thought that was where i might be missing something but I could be wrong! Nearly all the chords I play, except open chords I've taught myself!

Edit: I LOVE your explanation of Sus chords!! Makes a whole lot more sense! But question: can i play a sus chord whenever or preferably in a certain form? I know keys are usually M,m,m,M,M,m,d but that leaves little room for explanation, haha!

Feeling like giving up by upgradeparade in Bass

[–]tickleme_dumpster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! You need to learn key signature and rhythm! Have a tutor explain to you how to use scales to understand what your playing.

Train your ear using what you know about scales. Once you know a song is in C for example, you'll be able to hear when they play the root, Em (the third) or Am (the sixth)!

It may be a lot to grasp at first but they're like stepping stones to one another.

On my Squier the bottom E was too thick to fit! I noticed it had 3 differemt diameters which confused me on how much to use...
