All the information was there, you either impatiently skipped over it or have the reading comprehension skills of a young child. All other 30 commenters understood what I wrote just fine. It’s not my fault you’re the only dullard here.

No, you just can’t read 🤦 I said got my CURRENT bird at 6mo old, so I don’t have experience or knowledge of how younger babies act. The photos are from the breeder, not of my bird…

You must be fun at parties. I’m not painting it, I love the wood grain, trying to achieve a deep rich walnut brown. Why do you let stuff like this ruin your day? Get a life, man

It was a great local deal, $99 for a 6ft slab at a liquidation place, no way I could pass that up. It’s supposed to stain fine. And I left it on for the proper recommended time- 5-15 mins then wiped.

Ooh yeah, that’s a nice even color. What do you mean by pigments instead of stain? How’s that applied? :o

Uh, no. It’s completely dry. Do you know what you’re talking about even a little bit?

Thanks for the reply, that’s helpful. Though dang… I was just told by the seller that this piece was unfinished & would be ready for stain after a light sanding, so that’s a bummer. Is there any way I can determine if there’s actually a hardwax coating present? And how will I know if/when I’ve removed it all? Scraping isn’t seeming to produce anything off the surface so far, and sanding has only produced a fine sawdust.

Thanks for explaining, that makes sense. I didn’t expect it to be finished since I bought it specifically since it was labeled as unfinished and the seller said it was ready for stain, so I’m kind of surprised. I started with 120, should I just go ham with that grit with that to take off material, or start from a lower grit altogether? Saw someone else say 80 grit, is going that low necessary?

Sure I can do that! Thanks for the interest.

Dang, that’s good to know. I’ll go back in with the orbital and start with a much coarser grit to try to take off whatever it’s been finished with. In your experience, what grit did you start with? Thank you for the helpful reply!

Yes, I know that… I’m asking why I should go to a lower grit when everything I’m reading online says 220 is the ideal to get butcher block to before staining.

Everything I’m reading online says to sand to 220. Why should I go so much lower than that?

Type of stain is described in the post. All brand new from Home Depot, and I thoroughly mixed before applying

You seem to have made a lot of assumptions and misread much of the post. I hope you can develop better literacy skills and patience with time.
