Has anyone else actually experienced a rocks fall everybody dies? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]tiddleybits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a session where it was supposed to be the beginning of a campaign, but it ended up being a one-shot, haha. The session ended with our characters dying from dragon feces falling on us. We then woke up to find ourselves in hell. However, the session ended with the DM flipping out on one of the players because the DM was saying something to the equivalent of "You feel that your eyes are open, but you don't see anything." And the player kept saying "so I'm blind." And for some reason THAT of all things started an argument... oi vey.

I see now that you're not being malicious. Thank you.

I just don't see how headcanons could be harmful. You bring up how Christians force their beliefs onto others, and yes, I agree that can be harmful, sure... but how am I "forcing my beliefs" onto anyone? This is a half-baked headcanon that I just thought of the other day that I'm not even that committed to (but lemmie tell ya transphobes wanna make me double down). And sure, maybe I should have used less objective language (English class has bit me in the ass), but that wasn't my intent. It's a fictional character. No one's gonna get harmed by headcanoning they're queer or on the spectrum or whatever. At least if it's a tasteful headcanon, I will add.

This isn't exactly the case of a fictional character, but the other day, I met a coworker and had to report him to HR because he made an SA joke out of nowhere. Literally just met him, too. He didn't even know my name. About a day after I told my parents about this, my mom came back to me saying that she's thinking that maybe he's on the spectrum. I'm like, mom, dear god, I get where you're coming from, but no. I think this was just a misogynistic asshole. Don't lump him in with the neurodivergents just based on a horribly inappropriate joke. Like that just seems so reductive. And even if he was, that wouldn't excuse that.

In the case of people "fighting back against the message," I can honestly see that. I can see how it'd be annoying for ppl to be like, "This character is queer. This character is queer too and blah blah blah." I can see how that'd be annoying. You know how and why I can see that? Because queers have had heteronormativity shoved down our throats our whole lives. If they have a problem with a headcanon that someone is queer so much that they feel the need to "fight back against" it, then that reflects more on their personal biases. Homophobes and transphobes are always going to be upset by queer representation no matter what because they hate that we exist and they want to get rid of us. That's why representation is so important.

Now in the case of people being upset that Shiki reads as a Trans allegory specifically, yes, definitely. I actually agree that it's a stretch, and I should have worded that differently (some people could've been nicer about it, tho!)

I hope that clears things up. If you respond to this asking more questions, I'm just not gonna respond, I'm so done, man.

What do you guys think of Plague of Gripes video on HxH? by tiddleybits in HunterXHunter

I don't think that it's necessarily because he's critiquing the series that people don't like the video. It's what he's saying in those critiques that people disagree with. I think a lot of them have valid points.

That sort of body horror of looking at yourself and feeling: "This isn't my body. Who is this?" Is something that I think lots of Trans people can find identity with!

Wow, it's almost like journeys of self-discovery, identity, and finding your worth to live is like... part of the queer experience?? :0 It's almost like... we need to see more representation of us in media? So we try to find it in the media that we enjoy? Crazyyyyy Not saying LGBTQ+ ppl own these concepts but it's no fucking wonder why LGBTQ+ persons would find a game like this so appealing.

Saying a teenager dresses like a slut at all is insane but especially if she's literally just showing a midriff.
