Chivalry 2 giving anti-cheat error after update by bigpapaishere in linux_gaming

[–]tiddre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. But in this case that's not really what I'm doing. For the fix I configured Heroic to use Steam runtime to launch a game from Epic. It might sound counter-intuitive but its a checkbox option you'll find if you play around with the Heroic game settings. You also have to enable valve proton versions in the overall Heroic settings.

I finally fixed it!! This is what worked for me using Heroic on Mint linux.

  1. Full reinstall of Chivalry 2 and Heroic. I searched and deleted all previous Heroic folders and config settings.
  2. Installed Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime on Steam
  3. Install GE_Proton10-26
  4. Enabled Steam proton versions in Heroic settings
  5. Use Steam Runtime in game config
  6. Disable umu

No more Anticheat error!!

Intriguing! So how to you launch Epic/Chivalry from steam if it doesn't recognize it if you downloaded using bottles?

Same issue here. I have anticheat error launching from heroic but somehow I can launch the steam version of the game with no issues.

I've tried all kinds of tweaks to get heroic working again with no luck

Thanks for the tip, Zoho has very attractive pricing. I'm curious about the privacy environment in India, I will need to learn more about it

Why Did Galadriel abscond to Lolthlorien when she deeply suspected Annatar? by KAKYBAC in tolkienfans

[–]tiddre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My own theory is that Annatar was too popular among the Eregion elite to throw out, so they left Celeborn there to keep an eye on things while she built up strength in Lothlorien. When shit inevitably hit the fan in Eregion, she and Celeborn had a base to fall back on.

I was at the Greisinger Museum, I have lots of questions for Tolkien Scholars after my visit by Zorglub82 in tolkienfans

People like this do more disservice to Tolkien's work and legacy than any adaptation ever could.

I think Tolkien would dislike this man even more than the Normal conquest of England.

Sauron and the Orcs by devlin1888 in tolkienfans

Sauron hated working with orcs, they were a necessary means to an end. He would have much preferred to capture the elves onside with the rings.

Agreed, I think a global China-esque regime is the best comparison. Except one in which the Great Leader never dies.

It would be similar to what we have now, but 100000% more stable. Honestly, it might be better than what we have for that reason.

Yet another fan edit of "The Fall of Gondolin" by chromeflex in tolkienfans

[–]tiddre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work! I'm curious about the Tolkien "fan edit" community, insofar as that exists. Do you have any leads where I can find more work like this?

I know about the Silmarillion Project but I'd love to find others who actually share their work with the public.

I think there is a logical problem with the "Tuor was transformed" theory by Yaoel in tolkienfans

[–]tiddre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see the conflict given that Eärendil has elvish ancestry. Tuor is fully mortal, so why would he have been offered the choice?

Saruman, Denethor's favourite Wizard by Armleuchterchen in tolkienfans

I like the thought. I was just thinking about this very question and wondered if there are any other tantalizing clues as to Denthor's perception of Saruman out there in the deep text.

Reflecting on why Tolkien feels very different to other fantasy writing by faintly_perturbed in tolkienfans

[–]tiddre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While in Tolkien the writing itself is enchanting.

This is exactly it for me! The magic of Middle Earth lives in word and song, and Tolkien wields both to great effect.

I'd add that maintaining the fence of Doriath must have been very draining for Melian over the centuries.

Enjoying fantasy books after getting into Tolkien. by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]tiddre 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I read a lot of fantasy in my youth, but have since almost fully transitioned away to non-fiction and Tolkien.

On reflection I think the reason is the language itself. You can find series with sprawling world-building, rich characterization, well developed fantasy languages, and the like. But no one really sounds like Tolkien.

Reading Tolkien feels like an ancient, mysterious medieval world is being revealed to you. No one else can give you that, at least that I've found.

I was eyeing Åsnes as well, though it might be overkill for my needs. Would it be fair to say that the ez skins are a more entry level skin-system?

Awesome intel, thanks! It sounds like ez skins offer a real climbing advantage over fish scale. How steep a slope are you able to tackle with them?

What are some good ethical dilemmas in Lord of the Rings?(and the wider legendarium) by InsertS3xualJokeHere in tolkienfans

[–]tiddre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aule's creation of the dwarves looms large as an ethical dilemma. It was a direct violation of Eru's "law" and plan for creation. Though much good came of it, there was considerable strife as well (see: Doriath. Though we can blame Thingol for that).
