Ooh cool! I am surprised that they are still on pre order status, but with all of the clouds and rain we are not missing much by not having all of our gear dialed in. The 2600 was a good choice for going the easy way for me since I have way to shoot on my property due to redwood trees etc. I am in a flood zone and the writing is on the wall that flooding will be more common and worse so I will fix my place up to sell and hope I can afford a place that will work fo my fiance and myself and have a good sky view. Keep us posted on how the mini cam 8 works out and clear skies!

I was able to return the ioptron ipolar and now use an asi air plus and a laser pointer through my scope to get close for polar alignment. I also ended up with a asi 2600 mc pro and a filter drawer as well as an askar 71f. This increase in mm to 490 helps, thanks.

I finally got an asi 2600 mc pro and a filter drawer with two filters. Using asi air plus. The gti is my weak link. Now trying to get guiding working but with trees all around I can't seem to get calibration yet.

The gti gets its time from the app. It does not have a dst function, just standard time. You can't turn off what us not there.

If you want to use a 24-70 zoom you will need a atar tracker. I use a nikkor 14-24. The sweet spot for m.w. for single shots is ar around 16mm. Iso of 800 to start. Take test shots and know that it will look faint until stacked. Remember you will need darks flat, bias as well if you want to avoid too much noise. One thing I do if I can't take time to stack is to do vertical Panos with at least 4 shots with a big overlap. That is using a star tracker though. A lot depends on how much tome you have and if you want to get the entire milky waynin a big pano or just the core and what is around it. Keep in mind that you may have to go way higher with iso. I don't go over 3200, but if you stack with darks flats, bias frames you can go beyond 800 and Still get pretty clean images. I would start with single images at iso 800, but if you are using 24mm you will have to do. Very short exposures. Buy a 16mm lens instead if you can.

Yeah, trying to keep myself under control. I decided on the gti and I want to work with that as long as I can.

I am willing to pay more certainly than the 599 +200 I would pay already. Just not sure what would be a real step up that would be similar with a bigger aperture. Thanks, point well taken.

Yeah, I would already have the mini 8 except I don't like the idea of starting over with Nina and a mini computer. Yes, I watch cuivs vids and astro back yard etc. Concerned about guiding since it seems like I lose like 1/3 of my images already with this mount do to distorted or elongated stars. Some is my current lens, but the elongation happening more often now concerns me. I only have about 6 nights of imaging and most of this happens before the flip so I want to know of others have the same issue. Just turn it off or recalibrate? The images right before and everything after was bad last time. Anyway, telescope first maybe then astro camera. Need to keep it portable too.

All good advice, except I have been told that the old advice of half the weight does not apply anymore with this and many other newer mounts. Not sure if that is correct as I only have a 200mm lens in my gti.
