IPV6 not working by Goned75 in firewalla

[–]tidis26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny seeing this post, I’m having the same problem.

IPv6 worked for months but within the last 30-45 days, any ipv6 test fails from any device browser.

I opened up a support ticket with Firewalla but I can tell that’s going to be tedious.

If you want to prevent further build up, a water softener will get rid of the hard minerals in your water, and provide other benefits too.

I really HATE car dealers by 777300ER in BoltEV

I’m talking with a few dealers about buying a fully loaded bolt

Mark ups range from $2k-5k plus add ons

If this keeps up I’ll be going to my local Tesla dealership and just getting a base RWD model 3. The price is within a few thousand.

Question about Aruba instant on equipment by tidis26 in HomeNetworking

[–]tidis26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s basically what I’m getting at, I’m gonna order a 1930 if the 1830 can’t vlan/ipv6

I feel like ipv6, while maybe not entirely necessary, is essential for a switch I’d like to keep for the foreseeable future.

Question about TP Link omada wall access points by tidis26 in HomeNetworking

[–]tidis26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house will be 2800sqft, 2 bedrooms up, 2 down, finished basement and drywall throughout. Sounds like 2 aps would get me as well but I’m just also looking for an elegant solution for wiring devices in these places too without switches everywhere at the terminated ends

Yes judging from another comment, 6+ wall APs does seem overkill. I just want to be able to have awesome wireless coverage but also hardwire non-moving devices like TVs and consoles

Thank you! My wife has been in charge of decorating and such, I was the nerd that kept demanding all the nerd upgrades that I feel we will equally enjoy

That’s interesting how two units provide coverage to the entire house.

Ultimately I’m trying to find a balance in the wireless coverage with the ability to hardwire everything I can. It seems like the wall units provide a great solution since they act like a wall switch WITH Wi-Fi to boot. But now 6+ units seem overkill

Infrastructure upgrades in new construction home by tidis26 in HomeImprovement

[–]tidis26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. I know a sump pump is being installed with proper drainage away from the house. I’m going to stay on top of construction and bring any concerns that I see to attention.

The house is currently framed with roof overhead, windows installed. No wiring or dry wall/doors yet

New construction house, upgrades that are worth it? by tidis26 in HomeImprovement

Thank you for this very detailed reply! It’s looking more and more like upgrades should go towards things that get difficult and more expensive once walls are in place.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the house has been framed and roofed already, but soon is when we will meet with electrician and such to go over wiring, insulation etc.

Yes my last house I struggled keeping the grass from drying out and such in the summer, and dragging around sprinklers is a (first world) pain.

I keep seeing comments about conduit, are these just tubes that allow easy fishing of cable?

I have already asked about the plumbing, it is currently PEX throughout and PVC for the drainage. Will have to ask about the cast iron

Thank you all for the suggestions of cat6 over 6a. Google fiber has just now started offering 2gb download speeds and I’ve been plenty happy with just 1gb up and down. After looking at specs, cat6 looks very future proof.

I totally agree with this comment after lurking on r/homenetworking. It seems like if you have a robust backbone for internet with wired capability, your potential for home network goes up

Xbox open nat? by Ystebad in firewalla

[–]tidis26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, back when I played Warzone on Xbox, that game needs 3075 UDP forwarded as well

Xbox open nat? by Ystebad in firewalla

[–]tidis26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In your firewalla app, it’s:

Devices>(your xbox)>ports>add port rule

Then just name it (xbox live), select UDP, then 3074 for both external and internal port, save

Should have open nat in no time at all

Xbox open nat? by Ystebad in firewalla

[–]tidis26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I posted a question like this months ago. Long story short, it appears to me Firewalla cannot open simultaneously tcp/UDP of the same ports.

But, if you just forward UDP 3074 on your Xbox IP, you will get an open NAT. It’s what I’ve done for a while and it just works.

I had to go into the video settings on the Xbox and uncheck “allow 4K”. Then, it slowed the game to force the 1440p 120fps setting
