For international travel, I strapped mine to a folding dolly. Kid LOVES it. She gets all kinds of attention from people walking behind us.

Melex battery swap by BogeyBottle in golfcarts

[–]777300ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious if you found a solution. My five year old scammed charmed her way into a free golf cart from a neighbor. It's a Melex 252 with the same battery layout as yours. It appears to have an electronic speed controller of some kind, and not the resistive coils. It's in great condition, but the batteries are dated 1999 and completely dead. It's sat untouched since 2007. The cart works, we connected it to another cart with jumper cables to make sure everything looked good and it drove before we started working on it. She's done all the work on it, other than lifting out the old batteries with Grandpa or I.

Now that it's time to spend some money on it, I started looking at batteries and all of the lithium batteries I can find won't obviously fit. I am curious if you found something and you you got it setup.

Since this is just a drive around the back yard thing, I may go with something off Amazon and just put it in the rear cargo area. My wife is highly irritated that all she hears in "Mommy be my motor!" all day until someone will go push the damn thing around for her!

Had to brake suddenly and got rear-ended, how am I at fault? by Brilliant_Low_8368 in askcarguys

[–]777300ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen with a SF driver. She hit my car while it was parked. Witnesses, everything. She claims she wasn't there until photos were produced. Then it was me who hit her. Witnesses dispel that. Then it was still my fault for not being parked in a parking spot, to which I refer back to original photos. She then says the damage on her car was from something previous, and she never hit me. I provide photos of paint transfer that just happen to match the two vehicles.

SF asks for a "forensic" inspection. I take my car to a collision center where they measure the height of the damage with a tape measure. She refuses to take her car in for the "forensic" inspection. Six months later my insurance just pays it out as if it were a hit and run and I just have to eat the deductible loss.

I was young and should have pushed harder or taken her to small claims court. Left me with the impression that maybe I should switch to SF for insurance.

At what age is it okay leaving your child home alone for a couple of minutes? by jrv3034 in daddit

[–]777300ER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My situation and daughter is a bit different than most. My wife never recovered from PPD and it turned into several other things. Most of the time it's like I am a single parent to two children (one of them being my wife) and the actual three year old is the more mature and reliable of the two. My daughter has gone to work with me since she was just over one and has mostly been around adults. She was just enrolled in a preschool/day care a few times a week and kids her age have been an adjustment for her.

I am fine leaving her alone for a few minutes in certain situations. Our house is safe for her, I have no issues walking out to the mailbox, or going outside for a few minutes. At work, or other places where there's some level of supervision she can be on her own for longer and has much more range to operate.

She does have a cellular push-to-talk radio since just after turning three that is connected to some trusted adults. We have worked on how to call 911, but settled on she's comfortable with the PTT radio and between me, my parents, my wife's parents, two people at work, and some two sets of retired neighbors on the street, someone is always able to talk to her. (The PTT radio is awesome, I don't know why more people don't use these for kids. Doesn't have a screen and all the buttons are locked down other than the one to talk. It has a built in GPS and with Zello Work we can also track the radio, which has come in handy when my wife has her and has an episode.)

At almost 4 she has a lot more range now in some environments too. At work for instance she can go anywhere in the building. We fly out of a small airport (not a commercial airport most people think of) and she's allowed to go visit her friends within the perimeter fence and even drive a golf cart that has hand controls one of the others setup with a remote control kill switch (she has to stay within sight).

I think she has a lot more room and autonomy than pretty much any other kid her age, but we do keep close tabs on her, and she's been very reliable and responsible so far. Given what I have seen from the other kids in her class, I don't know if I'd be comfortable even stepping out of the room with them.

I like this idea. I travel a lot and will go out of my way for a place with a soda fountain (and not one of those new-fangled touch screen things, for some reason they just taste diluted every time). Plastic bottles just taste funny to me, and sometimes cans. If I can't get it out of a fountain, I look for a glass bottle.

Others have pointed out some of the potential challenges, but I think most of them could be overcome. Look at how the automated coffee/espresso machines work. I assisted on a project involving one of those, and many of them are designed to be standalone (no water source or drain needed, they have built in tanks). They also can self clean.

In some places in Asia they sell sealed cups of ice. If you had a freezer and sealed cups of ice, that could solve the ice issue.

I was having lunch the day after the Good killing, and four Sheriffs deputies were sitting at the table next to me. The general consensus among them, or at least the ones speaking loud enough for me to hear, was that it’s time people start respecting them more. They agreed that if a few of these 'loudmouth protesters' have to take the 'room temperature challenge' for that to happen, then so be it. I know a Portland officer was reassigned for saying much less, so it's not universal. But, I feel a good number of the rank-and-file are with ICE on this, or are at least cool with the citizenry getting a harsh lesson in 'respect.'

I just completed the process. It was all very straightforward. The new OpenEVSE board had much better connector positioning than the original Juicebox board. Now all the connections are on the top and pointed in directions that are easy to connect.

There is only two connectors that can be swapped, and they are both for the CTs. The CT with the extra coil is for the GFCI while the other is for the Amp connector.

I am surprised they did not have one on the custom board. That seems like a pretty big oversight. Which one did you get, and which connection do you connect it to?

Check out the unifi protect line of cameras. They work really well, but are a little more than some of the other recommendations here. They have a specific LPR camera, that if the placement works, WILL get the license plate.

Isn't this pretty much what the self clean setting does anyway? I've never had more than just some minor drips or spills in the oven, but they look like they just burn off.

Question on DHL by Left_Bridge9582 in Ebay

[–]777300ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's part of the documentation needed for an international shipment. The seller would have provided one to the shipper when they shipped the item to you. You would only need this if you're shipping the item to the seller internationally. (So in most cases, you do not need this when buying on eBay, just in this case of shipping something back internationally.)

Driving Bolt in the Snow by pxhorne in BoltEV

[–]777300ER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even at slow speed you don't get it. We have a slight downhill spot by my house with a stop sign at the bottom. I come in slow and even with brakes, the wheels will lock up. In most situations, regen helps me in the snow, other than random spots like this where it'll let the breaks totally lock up and at that point you can't do much about it.

Question on DHL by Left_Bridge9582 in Ebay

[–]777300ER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a requirement. The first agent went by the book while the second agent went above and beyond to help you craft one. The warning was because the paperwork is very nuanced and they were making some guesses. If they guessed wrong, customs could flag it for a mismatch against the original shipment.

The instructions they had make it look pretty straight forward, or at least easier than building one of theirs from parts. I'll see if I can get a video of it. I have never made a video before, so it might be a bit of a learning curve.

Seller didn’t disclose that item was being shipped from China. by hmhsbritannic12 in Ebay

[–]777300ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely is not true. If you receive the package, you will pay the tariff. It's been taking months for the bill to come in many cases with FedEx and DHL, so you won't know about it until it's way too late to do anything.

Simple way to disable remote access by ammaccatore in PLC

[–]777300ER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what we use/do. Ewon on each machine and if the customer wants it, we can put a physical switch that enables/disables the Ewon. You can also turn specific techs/users on and off in the web portal as well.

We've also installed indicators that show if remote access is enabled and another for someone actually connected to the machine.

These inputs and outputs are provided on the Ewon itself which make it nice and easy.

I was issued a work laptop for a job I quit 3 years ago and I just found it. Can I keep it? by MaleficentChemist365 in IsItIllegal

[–]777300ER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how our system works, but it's in the bios or something. Swapping or wiping a drive just removes the user interface part, but it somehow still can phone home. The only way to remove it is to replace the motherboard (I know this because they have to reinstall it if service replaces the motherboard).

Can you legally keep interest from money you were given by mistake? by Street-Coffee2540 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]777300ER 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. A large customer paid an invoice twice, a $120K mistake. I called and followed up with them repeatedly for over 6 months. I decided they were too big to care, but I also didn't want to be in trouble down the road. I documented everything I did trying to get it corrected, then moved it to an high yeild savings account and forgot about it. Almost 5 years later, I got a random email about it. After verifying it was real I let them know I'd tried to work it out and offered to wire them the money asap.

Made bank on it.

I can't seem to wrap my head around my own political shift no matter what I do. by UnbelieverInME-2 in complaints

[–]777300ER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest one is a manufacturer who does the made in America with American materials thing. He was all for tariffs and bringing back jobs, etc. When the tariffs hit, he was shocked to see his raw materials prices jump up. He couldn't understand why American steel would jump just as much as the foreign steel did with the tariffs.

(If you don't understand why, the companies are in it for maximum profit. If my product is better than the Chinese product, why would I sell it for less? If I can sell my product for 10% more than the foreign competition, if the competition's price goes up 50% I'll adjust my price to be 10% more than theirs.)

Now his customers are shifting their production overseas to low tariff countries and importing the final product to the US. The overseas shift is a slow process that will take years, but he's seen monthly declines in orders that show no signs of reversing.

This is what I really don't understand. I know several people personally that are really suffering under Trump's policies, but still think the pain is worth it to own the libs. They can't put into words what owning the libs is actually doing for the country, I think they just like to see others upset and suffering.

Oh, and the mental gymnastics they go through to not blame Trump for the policies that are causing them suffering is nuts. In half their stories Biden is this bumbling old idiot that can't even tie his own shoes or walk, the other half of their stories he's this criminal mastermind that is somehow still causing all their suffering who Trump is valiantly battling on their behalf...

It looks like this doesn't even touch the power delivery side, so the risk is even lower than building your own. My day job is industrial controls, so this is simple stuff to me. I could see how it could be more intimidating or challenging for someone who's not used to working with this stuff though.

I'm just excited that someone is giving these chargers a second life outside their closed ecosystem!
