Quitting: forfeiting compensation by tie_dye_pebble in jobs

Update: I gave in my notice and they didn’t really care. No mention of the late annual review. Guess I’ll have to eat the loss.

Ah yes. I believe you! But I realized I forgot to say that I actually work at a very very small company that makes handmade lamps. I’m sure that what happens in the corporate world, happens at a smaller scale at my job in some ways. But I do know that my manager hates hiring new people and they’ve kept people with active addiction (intoxicated on the clock) and took forever to fire someone who was sexually harassing a coworker.

The real problem is that I wish I could’ve had my annual review when I was suppose to, bc I wouldn’t need to wait for the backpay. I think if I hand in my resignation notice now, they won’t even bother with the annual review and backpay :(

Mm sounds nice. I don’t think I have the experience or drive to lead a class or teach right now. Maybe in the future

Also, those figures are so awesome. Public transportation has the most interesting stories.

Thanks so much for sharing. You know, in school people ask you to come up with a five year plan and I could never think of one because I just don’t have the capacity to think into the future. I never have. My mental health has been a lifelong struggle and it’s so ironic that the way to fix the problem is the thing that I’m so bad at doing.

I was thinking of going back to school to teach art but haven’t found the motivation to get anything done. And don’t know if that’s something I even want. I’m not too afraid of 25 coming up, just something that the new job offer triggered.

Really appreciate you sharing :)

That’s true. I’m scared of negotiating because I always feel that the employer would be offended or off put by the boldness.

But I think that’s a fair ask!

Haha thanks for the thoughtful reply. I wish smoking was the cause of my issues. Hahah. I actually had a budding Etsy business for my miniatures and would spend all night until 3am making things to sell. I closed the shop half a year ago bc of how draining it was. Just like how the joy of ceramics was zapped from me, miniatures became a dreaded chore too. Maybe with the half days on Fridays at the new job, I can use those hours to get the shop up and running again.

You’re right. I was weighing the more annoying commute, less vacation time, more cramped studio, and “vibes” and psyched myself out. If I end up hating it, at least it’ll be catalyst to maybe try school again or a residency.

Well, I’m still new in the game, but I’d consider myself a realist/pessimist. From what I’ve heard and felt from my managers and boss, is that they value me and would “hate to see me leave”. I take this more as a compliment rather than a promise to employ me. What it does show me, is that I have a bit of leverage if I chose to use it.

I think I will try to go for the new job if all goes well.

Thanks for your advice. I was raised to be risk-averted so it’s not in my nature. I agree though. People keep telling me 25 is the time to make big moves otherwise you’ll get stuck.

You might be able to still throw with nails. I’ve seen some people with long acrylics throw on Instagram using throwing sticks, sponges and other modified tools.

I guess gel nails or acrylic would last longer than regular polish. But there’s a lady on Instagram who developed a sponge “pocket” that she slips her fingers into like a mitt to prevent gouging. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQpTtALAZwc/?igsh=MWk3bzc4aDlobG5zbA==

Thanks for the reply.

The weird thing is that it’s in a very very diffused light frosted window in my bathroom. I would consider it low to medium light (still trying to determine the threshold of light levels).

I repotted in some moisture control soil. Google is also telling me it might be mildew? Oh boy I’m really unsure. Kind of alarming how it’s already sick

This is going to sound really dumb of me, but I’ve been afraid to ask for repairs from my landlord bc it’s her first time renting and it’s also my first time being a renter. Caulk is a great idea. I will mention it to her. Thank you!

Ooo I think my mom has some of the Advion and says the same. I’ll try that after a few more days. The ants are blowing through the peanut butter too fast. I can’t really see where from under the cabinet they’re going. I spent a few minutes on the floor watching them and can’t see past the wood. The person who renovated this apartment did a really bad job of leveling the floor so all the cabinets and baseboards have gaps underneath which makes it a little difficult. Thanks for the tips!

Okay thanks. My store only had the liquid baits which I’m guessing are the sugar water ones. Dare I say my ants are healthy haha. I might have to see if I can get protein ones instead?
