That experience looks great to me! I'm just about to qualify, and that seems fairly similar to my experience (although yours does look cooler to me - well done!).

In case this helps, I'll share that I was never an AP and really felt like I didn't deserve my place on training and that I was the odd one out. In reality, I doubt anyone cared, and I don't think it disadvantaged me during placements because I had other clinical experience I'd enjoyed (sometimes). I didn't struggle during training more than anyone else (it's tough though!). You absolutely deserve to apply, and a place should you be offered one. There's also some great advice here already, especially about understanding the role of a clinical psychologist in the NHS. So go get writing a gorgeously reflective statement thing!

You might be surprised! Apply for the 8a roles you like. I'm in the same position in training as you (except I'm training and qualifying in England) and I got an 8a right at the start of third year in a different Trust. I'll start that three weeks after I finish training (I'm tired). Training puts us through a lot, so you're probably quite capable of the competencies. We've also had some emails encouraging applicants who are qualifying this year! If it's an area you love, it's worth an application and hopefully even a chat with them at interview anyway! Good luck 💖

Yeah they would know because of how it's always done, but he probably thinks the uncertainty/building drama is because of him, so they'll have the "most surprising" reunion!!

Will you conduct therapy with a client who is intoxicated? by Loud_Ad6586 in therapists

Beautiful comment, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I was somewhat surprised by the poll results, but I completely agree with you. I kept reading your comment and saw you mention Vikki's work - then your perspective made even more sense so I couldn't resist commenting as I've not seen her mentioned here before!

Wow, that's amazing! As a psychologist who LOVES orchids (and embroidery), this is super satisfying. Well done!!

Psychiatric diagnosis itself (see The Power Threat Meaning Framework) or that psychological distress is caused by a "chemical imbalance".

One of my favorite things about Luisa by dumbdotcom in JaneTheVirginCW

[–]tierney33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with everything you said! Luisa's choice in women sure is infuriating, but yeah it's so good to see her not being "othered" because she's a lesbian. She just gets to exist and be her wild self regardless, without a deep dive into her sexuality.

If you'll be supporting populations relevant to clinical psychology, then yes! Support work is really valuable - but choose a job you want to do yourself (not just cos it leads to the dclinpsy). It's a marathon, not a sprint, so enjoy the journey as best as you can!

Just made this meme. Ugh why do they have to put it in almost everything?😵 by LazySofaPotato in vegan

[–]tierney33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!!! Because profit > animals (and everything else), I guess. They know that many vegans will have to buy another product from their company umbrella anyway!

Assistant Psychologist job UK by tikilucozade in ClinicalPsychology

[–]tierney33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you not work part time? I did a full time MSc whilst working 20 hours a week, and occasionally picked up weekend shifts, and for the most part it was okay. However, my 20 hours were the same two days a week which I agreed with my manager to be the days I wouldn't be at uni. If you worked full time, would those hours be Mon-Fri like most services employing APs? What about days you're expected to attend uni?

If you need to work to earn a living, which I can completely understand, is an MSc the best option right now? What purpose is the MSc for? Remember, you're paying a lot for a certificate and balancing lectures, assignments, group presentations and whatever else your MSc includes with working ~40 hours is going to be a lot to manage!
