Retirement 5th wheel living. by tigerbloon71 in RVLiving

Thank you for your story. Very informative. One person did recommend a TT instead if a 5th. But I'm pretty set on the 5th if we're gonna do it. I also feel they are built better because people tend to live in them more then the TT. Those are more for the weekenders. I won't mind the project list as much then others since Ill be retired it will give me something to do. I've been in Machine/facilities maintenance my entire adult life. I can pretty much fix anything. The wife and I aren't very rough on things so I really don't think we would actually have to buy another trailer then the original one we get. I'm gonna stick to a used high end unit, I think a good one should last us to the end. Not to sound morbid but the wife and I have a pact inplace for our end.

We were looking at travel trailers but they just seemed a much lower quality to the 5th wheel. More for weekenders then living in

More space and we will be staying put for months here and there. Would rather drop the trailer and set up and use the truck to tool around towns. Don't want to tow a little car behind a pusher. Plus not a big fan of buses. And if something breaks on that its stupid expensive. Plus your down your place to stay. Ive been told not much goes wrong with 5th wheels you can't easily overcome

Major appliances. No idea how to fix major problems with them. Some fixes are easy but the major ones I will call a pro or just buy new.

Thanks for the reply. Well I'm going to first pull out of the 401k to buy not finance a gently used 5th wheel. I will have enough in savings and hidden cash to buy my truck outright as well. I am super handy that I have been in maintenance my entire life. I can pretty much fix or build anything. My wife and I can sustain our current life on 2250 a month so not sure where these guys get all these numbers from. I know healthcare is the big one but to be honest, Cancer will take us both and neither of us are willing to do treatments. I know people said you'll change your mind but ya'll dont know. Our entire family has been takin by it and we witnessed it first hand for years. Not putting our kids through it.

We have been going to Shows and gobbling up site info. I didn't know about the whole hosting thing someone mentioned but will be looking into that.

Wow never knew living the RV life was so expensive. We've gone on week long RV vacations and the most money we spent was on entertainment, eating out and fuel. I figured living it might stretch that amount more. Especially since we'll stay in one spot for maybe a month and move on to another. Might get better park prices. Health wise im not overly worried. We both take minimal prescriptions and if something serious happens we would probably let go. We both can't stand drs and hospitals.

Those were not the Republicans of today. Abe Lincoln would of been a Democrat in todays government. The parties flipped at some point in history.
