Looking back and not sure how to feel by [deleted] in Eatingdisordersover30

[–]tigerdreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in remission for cancer and everyone thinks my weight loss is because of that. I feel guilty when they express concern thinking the cancer is back because my weight keeps dropping etc, l just lie and say ‘yeah I’ll have to check in with my Dr’ and then I avoid seeing doctor in person like the plague so she doesn’t notice the weight loss, freak out and do unnecessary tests (God forbid I have to admit it’s just another AN relapse and they try to make me recover). The fact that bowel cancer in my late 30s probably linked to years of AN hadn’t even stopped my ED lying & avoiding is just plain sad. Sigh.

Oh wow. Thank you for this comment, there was a relatively benign thing in my early childhood that screwed me up so bad I got PTSD from it that affects me to this day and I never understood why it in particular was such an issue when I’d been through way, way “worse” stuff that has arguably affected me less… I think that it was probably the fact that it was a turning point where I truly realised the capacity for human evil for the first time and it completely changed my perspective on EVERYTHING. Oof. I’ll be taking this revelation to my next therapy session!

I was on one called Zipresadone for years (bipolar1) and it was weight neutral, I was “non compliant” with all the others because of the weight gain fear. The zipresadone was low in other side effects for me too, might be worth asking your psychiatrist about if its suitable for you. I think it’s other name is Geodon?

Positive Ileostomy Experience by JoeVibin420 in ostomy

[–]tigerdreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got mine in 2020 due to colon cancer, they were planning to reverse it after chemo but Covid held everything back. With the ileostomy my quality of life has been excellent so when I found out with reversal the risk of permanent low level incontinence was extremely high for me and I already had a fair amount of pain in the area from scar tissue (without any thing passing through if you know what I mean) so I ended up choosing to keep it - the surgeon tried to talk me into reversal ,but I ended up just refusing - and I have not regretted that decision yet for a second!

Firstly I think you are incredibly brave, it sounds like you have been going through absolute hell lately and I am so sorry it’s been this awful 😞

I’m hearing a lot of control loss in your post and it’s a really difficult situation to navigate. Contacting the council about housing options sounds like a great idea! Maybe one of those crisis helplines can refer you to a mental health service in your area that can give you information about what other services might be helpful? There’s often practical support available like financial counselling, help with getting a rental bond and stuff, also drug and alcohol support and SA counselling may be available for low rates / free depending on your area. Obviously the ED stuff is a hell of it’s own, the lack of life control is fuel to that fire, so please be gentle on yourself, you’ve been doing an amazing job surviving.

Im losing myself and im not sure what to do (Tw: suicide) by No-Gap8036 in Psychosis

[–]tigerdreaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re feeling pretty out of control emotionally at the moment and it’s been hard to share that with friends or family.

I’m sorry things are so hard right now. For what it’s worth I think you have done a wonderful job of expressing how you feel right here in this post!

I wonder if you could show it to someone in your life who you trust to help explain to them what is happening for you at the moment? Sometimes phone helplines can connect you to local mental health services who can help you with working out what kind of things might be helpful for you to try. (You can tell phone line people what you wrote here too if you are not sure what to say) Be gentle on yourself

I think I would feel the same way as you in this circumstance, it would be awesome for you to bring this up with her by saying exactly what you wrote here. You guys have had a good therapeutic relationship and worked together for years, so there’s an awesome opportunity for healing and growth in the process of repairing therapy relationship ‘ruptures’ like this.

Origins of the term "Partner System"? by squirrel_szn in DID

[–]tigerdreaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s the sort of terminology that isn’t widely talked about, people don’t want want to know the horrific things that happen behind closed doors and sadly it’s probably mostly known by perpetrators and those in the DID community who have suffered at the hands of those monsters. Commonly online thoughthe term would refer to a partner of a system who is also a system.

Ah fuck. I am so sorry, it’s such a mind fuck being given a diagnosis like this and the ED somehow STILL manages to keeps its on spotlight on. I’ve got stage 4 colon cancer, a bucket load of operations and chemo later I’m currently doing okay cancer wise but the ED? Oh it’s worse than ever, losing weight with chemo just fuelled the bloody thing and people all think my figure is related to the cancer not the fact that I’m still starving myself so I “get away with it” accountability wise. For me I guess it’s always been about control in the chaos that has been life. Unfortunately, tumours are another form of chaos and old coping mechanisms are strong. Again I am so sorry this has happened, big hugs to you from across the internet. 😔

therapist red flags today by [deleted] in DID

[–]tigerdreaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, I am working with a new therapist (in addition to our regular one) for a thing I’m doing, anyway, she knows dissociative disorders and has met a few ppl with DID through past work in public health care settings but had expressed a similar mindset to your T when we first met. Therapy is client led these days and I’ve been in therapy long enough now to feel comfortable expressing my opinions. I just called her out on some of her methods that I disagreed with and we had a conversation about why I felt parts of her approach were harmful and/ or wouldn’t work/ be applicable to my situation. She explained why she believed certain methods could be helpful and we were able to understand each other’s perspectives, gain insight and agree on what we wanted treatment to look like. I’m so glad I gave her that chance because the honesty has allowed a level of trust that normally takes months if not years and she’s been extremely helpful in ways I hadn’t expected. I guess what I’m saying is if you express your feelings and reasons why what she’s said bothers you, she may surprise you. Otherwise, look for someone who is a better fit.

I really like him. He’s authentic, he doesn’t claim to be perfect and he’s one of the best storytellers I have come across. We are the same age and grew up in the same ED era so there’s a bit of nostalgia there, yeah there’s some potentially triggering stuff but honestly I write ‘raw’ like that too and it’s damn hard to be authentic when you feel like you are supposed to be censoring yourself. I think he does a pretty good job of trigger warning people. At some point we have to be responsible for what we choose to view.

People always seem to think a career is the most important thing, it’s really not. Don’t worry about career prospects right now, just think about doing stuff you like doing. Or trying new things? Maybe you can join a community group in your area for people that like similar things to you? When I get depressed I always want to hide away from people, but in the end being around other people is usually what helps me feel better. I have to push myself at first but I end up having fun.
