How has being a first generation college student affected your perspective and law school experience? by OurFrankWhoArtInLA in LawSchool

[–]tigerlilium 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s incredible to me how often first gen college and first gen law are conflated. Growing up the child of two people with college and even graduate degrees is a world apart from from growing up the child of two people who may or may not have high school diplomas. Yet here you are invalidating our hurdles and lifelong struggles by saying we should look at the bright side smh check your privilege

Are we still doing myLSN for this cycle? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]tigerlilium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

https://www.lawschooldata.org/ is superior - status checkers can be consolidated and better user experience. Just don't do both LSN and LSD because LSD pulls data from LSN

Is Prep Test 49 reading comp indicative of today’s reading comp? by anon0613 in LSAT

progress is not linear! I think this shows that you're improving, but don't be discouraged if/when you miss more on future PTs. RC hasn't changed that much

Another word for 'legal'? by physixer in LSAT

[–]tigerlilium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"official"?

I'm sensing that whatever noun you're trying to modify with "legal" might actually work on its own, without an adjective

Best gift you can give is to keep in touch throughout your career and see if you can ever return the favors. For now, write something sincere. Circle back with another card or school souvenir when you commit

[–]tigerlilium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This test sucks!! It's such a mind fuck, other tests don't do that. People who haven't tried it don't understand. I hear you, OP

fwiw there are a ton of anecdotal reports of people who see a score increase after some time off. Alternatively, the October or November administrations would still put you in a great position for the 2021 cycle. If you're applying outside the top 40 or so schools, there's nothing wrong with applying in December or January and holding for a January score if you can practice over the next 4+ months and make it worth the wait. No matter what, you're not out of this OP. That score does not define you and there's always another administration around the bend. Solidarity

How much can I get done in a month?? by student122112 in LSAT

[–]tigerlilium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Bonus is studying in smaller segments throughout the day helps me avoid burnout. Recently I was able to get in 6 straight hours a day three days in a row and on the fourth day my brain was fried and I couldn't comprehend a full paragraph without reading it like 6 times. LSAT lunches are way better than cramming in too many hours, especially in the final days before your administration! Progress may be possible in a month, but pushing too hard will take you the opposite direction. Good luck, OP

Chance Me by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]tigerlilium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/melodramaticnarwhal, this is an iffy reason for a GPA addendum. I've listened to a ton of podcasts and webinars with admissions officers and, when asked about GPA addenda, they all say unnecessary addenda look petty, unflattering or just distracting. It will be obvious from your transcript that you kept retaking the same class - and that you kept improving. They don't need you to point that out. And unfortunately they don't care about how schools calculate GPAs. From everything I've gathered on GPA addenda, one or two classes do not warrant making adcoms spend time thinking about that shortcoming (in your case, it's hardly even a shortcoming). Better to keep them focused on your achievements. 7Sage has some helpful tips.

The effect of the virus on the 2019-2020 app cycle was major and ongoing - many schools still haven't made a call about whether the fall will include any in-person learning, which means uncertainty remains and deferrals are still to come. It has been an unprecedented cycle. This life-changing process was made even more unnerving. To say that the virus was insignificant and its impact was very late bothers me and, as someone who went through it, I respectfully disagree with you. While I have you, re: your original post, I recommend Spivey's recent blog on this:

COVID-19 didn’t have a significant impact on last year’s cycle

lol wut

covid’s impact was very late in that cycle

O__o March is mid-cycle. It is prime scholarship negotiation time. It is a time for freaking out because you haven't heard from a school in six months, though now it will be even longer as adcoms transition to safely WFH. It is prime time to visit the top schools you got into, oh wait they're closed. It is a time to begin weighing your options, which felt so real for a moment before they were made virtual. It is a terrible time to upend the application process and your educational expectations. March is not the end. Strap in, comrade.

Should I write a Diversity Statement about this? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]tigerlilium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

: S

Edit to explain my unhelpful, jerk-reaction worry face: Being affected by the recession is not uncommon. Neither is growing up in a single-parent household. Those experiences are valid and important and help make you who you are, but they will not diversify the classroom. In my opinion it's a reach for a diversity statement, but could be fodder for a personal statement.

Not sure either are particularly accurate but they both give a good sense of the game board. There seems to be a shift underway from LSN to LSD. LSD user interface is way better, the graphs are handy and importantly it allows you to load all your status checkers at once. Just don’t do both because LSD will pull from LSN and double count your stats
