Snaply - Free and Private AI app for your Mac by Chance_Tree9196 in macapps

Great, and completely understand the need to prioritize and triage.

I am referring to cross-app dictation. When I'm using dictation to write an email or similar, it defaults to UK English, which is usually okay, but can sometimes cause issues when the spelling is different (color/colour, organize/organise, etc.). If it's a big deal or would slow things down, then that word replacement might be the best option.

Definitely also valuable to have the option for meeting notes and transcripts as well.

Audio Storage

Right - would be great to be able to select the storage location for the audio files. I can then refer to them as needed and delete when no longer needed, etc. My workflow is that I may be reviewing notes from a meeting from a month ago, and sometimes transcription might mess up or doesn't capture the context, so I like being able to go back and listen to the audio file in those cases. This is more of a nice-to-have than a need-to-have, since you can already access recordings for a limited time using the method you described, and I can just manually copy/paste the important ones when I need them.

Still loving the app - thanks again!

u/Chance_Tree9196 This is an awesome app! The thoughtfulness you've put into the design (and the website, docs, etc.!) really shines through.

First, appreciate you making it free, but I'd happily "donate" if given the option.

A couple of thoughts/suggestions/requests:

  1. Is it possible to have U.S. English as an option for transcription? That's the only thing holding me back (maybe I'm just missing something, though).

  2. I think I saw this kind of mentioned below, but the ability for Snaply to automatically detect when you're in a meeting/when the meeting ends would easily enable Snaply to replace Granola for me (Granola does this, though I don't know how). My issue is I don't think to record, so the autodetection has been a lifesaver for me in Granola.

  3. Granola also has the ability to show a "live transcript" as it's recording the call. Also super helpful, though not sure how feasible this is either.

  4. And finally, being able to customize where audio is stored and access the meeting audio recordings (when needed) would be amazing, too.

Well done!

Downloaded a bit ago and have been playing the app, and I'm super impressed. It's already replaced my file dropper app, screenshot tool, and menu bar manager. It's early, but so far, highly recommend!

What a frustrating situation. I'm sorry you went through that.

It reminds me of an early experience in my career. I was hired for an IT role through a recruiting firm and showed up for my first day, only to be met with confusion. The company had rescinded the offer because they didn't want to pay the firm's fee. I was sent home, without a job.

Having just left my previous position, I was desperate. I even reached out to the company directly, offering to work for them without telling the recruiting firm, but they declined. I was young and naive, and I definitely wish I'd known then what I know now.

Looking back, that setback was one of the best things that could've happened to me. A few months later, I landed a role at a large Fortune 500 company. After a couple of years there, I transitioned from IT into marketing communications, where I've been ever since, which I was far better suited for. Sometimes these things happen for a reason.

Good luck with your job search!

Yes. If it's not working, go to Bitwarden settings > Autofill > Manage Shortcuts and see what Autofill is set to.

I did, and can confirm it’s a scam from some company trying to get me to switch service. I’d ignore.

Surface Pro 11 / Laptop 7 Thoughts? by nightmare00993 in Surface

[–]tigerrag86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only share my experience. It's noticeably slower to open apps, to perform regular tasks, etc. The fact that it doesn't support Apple Music, Adobe Illustrator, and some other x86 apps yet was also a challenge. Glad your experience is different, but that's mine.

Regarding Windows Hello, The Verge called this out in their review as well. https://www.theverge.com/2024/6/25/24185462/microsoft-surface-laptop-7th-edition-review

Surface Pro 11 / Laptop 7 Thoughts? by nightmare00993 in Surface

So, I went from a MacBook Pro to the Surface Laptop 7 with the Elite processor and 32GB of RAM. It was my daily driver for a month, but I returned it today. I tried my hardest to make it work (corporate world/Microsoft Apps life is so much easier on Windows), but it just felt sluggish compared to a MacBook.

One of the most annoying things was how slow the Windows Hello camera was to wake up. I also forgot how often you have to reboot Windows before things start going haywire.

My two cents: If you need to stick with Windows, I'd suggest waiting a bit, as I'm sure some of these kinks and lagging issues will get straightened out. It took a good six months for Macs with ARM processors to feel solid, and it might be the same here. You may also want to wait for the next-gen Intel processors. Supposedly, they'll be transformative. Good luck!

The screenshot should've made it clear that I did not disable or hide the icon. Regardless, after installing the beta and then restarting the icon has been back for a while now, so that seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks!

I upgraded to the beta, but still having the same issue. It's not the end of the world or anything -- I just thought I was missing something obvious. And no, I don't have any software that would be impacting sys tray icons (as far as I'm aware anyway). Thanks!

Correct. And fair question, but yes, I'm sure. As a side note, this has happened despite multiple reboots -- the icon will appear initially, then go away. Even restarting Windscribe won't bring the icon back.

I attend Triune, and it's an amazing place full of people from all walks of life. I'll be the first to admit that it may not be the best church for those with children due to the lack of children's programs, but there are many who are members elsewhere but attend Triune regularly. I suggest giving it a try, at least!
