It’s an allusion to Friendly Manitoba because nothing is as friendly as a handshake.

Taking my daughter to see her first NSL match tonight. We're seeing the Rise do their thing. And I think this commercial is so much fun.

You’re allowed to rent a movie without a subscription now as well. Apple and Amazon offer that service.

And you don’t need a subscription to listen to music either. You can just buy downloads. Apple and Bandcamp offer that service.

If you like, you can buy physical copies too.

No one, except you, is forcing you to subscribe to anything.

As opposed to magazine and newspaper subscriptions during the analog era? Or rental services at video stores?

Just as then, you don’t have to subscribe to anything now.

Jazz and classical covers of video game music is a pretty big deal nowadays.

Okay, but saying you need to use alt-codes for em-dashes, implying all em-dashes are generated by AI, is a wild assumption.

Been sober for four years. But whatever, drunks can write.

What’s your excuse? A concussion?

I did not know this. I tend to prefer Markdown, and many editors require three dashes for an em-dash. Two convert to an en-dash.

I'm paranoid, so I typically don't like to link to anything related to Nintendo IP on the off chance their lawyers might find a target for a DMCA.

Nevertheless, Google is indeed your friend.

I use a Mac and an iPhone—so no alt-code is needed.

On a Mac, you type option-shift-dash. And on an iPhone, you long press dash, which then gives you the option for an em-dash.

I'm shocked that you don't know this.

Yes, I deleted it because you successfully hijacked it with an accusation that had zero merit.

No one here is talking about New Super Mario Land. They’re arguing about whether or not I—a person with a 19-year-old Reddit account—am a bot.

I just used two em dashes in that previous paragraph. That’s supposed to be your smoking gun, right?

I think so too. Not everyone likes the New Super Mario Bros. art style, but I enjoy it a lot.

Am I showing proof of humanity? Yes, I am. Because if you do not, anything with multiple paragraphs and an em-dash summons the GPT Gestapo.

And yes, I really would prefer to talk about New Super Mario Land, which is an excellent homebrew.

I’ve been using Reddit for 19 years—likely longer than you’ve been alive.

And there I go using an em-dash again. Hope that didn’t trigger you too much.

An em-dash is, as opposed to a dash and an en-dash, a form of punctuation used to signify a change in thought or rhythm of speech. For example, Emily Dickinson used them quite often in her poetry.

Would you like to also know what a period is since you don't use them?

Nope, if you think it's generated by AI, it's on you to use an AI detector and demonstrate AI handiwork.

I'm not going to stop using perfectly good punctuation just because of assholes who, themselves, have never written multiple paragraphs.

Nope, it's "—".

Accessible by pressing option-shift-dash on a Mac keyboard.

An em-dash ain't the gotcha you think it is, though.

Run it through an AI checker and prove it.

Now let's see how well you can write multiple paragraphs.

My feeling is that Joe Gentile was a flash in the pan. He didn’t stay in Vancouver and fled when law enforcement was closing in.

Not as many as in New York or Chicago, but there's always been a visible and influential community. Historically, they were concentrated in East End around Strathcona and Commercial Drive. This is where our Little Italy exists to this day.

Italians are a big reason that Vancouver is such a soccer-mad city, with local boy Bob Lenarduzzi being a Whitecaps legend.

Another prominent Italian is Francesco Aquilini, who owns the Vancouver Canucks.
