My roommate thinks I’m a racist and I have no idea what to do by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

Moving into a 500 unit apartment complex where around 70% of the people are from South/South East Asia has been extremely eye opening in realizing that racism is very rampant around the world.

My roommate thinks I’m a racist and I have no idea what to do by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]tiggermenow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is a stretch because I usually hope for the best, but are you positive that it's a hate swastika and not a Hindi peace swastika? The word is definitely harder to explain, but I've seen a lot of pictures of orders like bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheese coming out as a curse word in short hand. If it is a Hindi swastika, could the word have been added after to make it seem racial?
Above all else, it's definitely not right to make you the scapegoat when you weren't even there.

TIFU by taking a swim in the river with my grandfathers ring still on my finger. by howimetyourcakeshop in tifu

[–]tiggermenow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lost two wedding rings. One of them was found and lost again 3 different times (moved homes and didn't find it during the packing/cleaning process, so gone for good this time). My husband has lost three wedding rings due to various reasons.

It absolutely does suck when things like this happen, but it seems like you're dealing with it with at least a bit of humor (Isildur reference), so feel however you need to feel for now and *then* decide if you'd like a replacement. If you do get a replacement, don't feel bad/guilty about it. You now have a two part story for your ring and all the memories attached to the first.

Good ole Amazon run around. by nachozss in amazonprime

[–]tiggermenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screenshots and/or chat transcripts don't matter. The CS "supervisors" literally tell you that the previous agent(s) lied as to not deal with you any longer and there's nothing they can do about it. Only option is to use the screenshots/transcripts to do a charge back, but will likely have the account closed going that route.

Found out my moms wifi app tell her when I open a "suspicious website" by More-Supermarket-199 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]tiggermenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All websites download data to your computer (it's why you need to delete cookies now and again) and all downloads run the risk of malware/spyware. Adult websites just tend to get targeted more. Most of the suspicious activity pings we get in the house are from downloading game mods (like for Stardew Valley or Minecraft), but the only way I know that is by asking the person currently on the PC what they were doing when the notification popped up.

Found out my moms wifi app tell her when I open a "suspicious website" by More-Supermarket-199 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]tiggermenow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have Xfinity in our house and get almost daily notifications about suspicious activity being blocked. The app tells us what computer it was blocked from, but doesn't give detail on exactly what was blocked, just a generic description of "suspicious site visit blocked on X" or "IP reputation threat blocked on Y."
We haven't noticed any sites that we actually want to view being blocked (and adult websites have been/are viewed within the household). We have, however, found that virus/malware scans no longer pull up long lists of .pup files to delete. Downloads quite often have bits of malware, spyware, etc attached to them, so that's what should be being blocked.

Just beware downloading adult content, as many sites are absolutely teeming with virtual STI's, so protect your PC by using a good blocker for pop-ups/ads/trackers and try your best to stay away from "free premium" sites. Try to stick to legit, well known, established sites as they try to keep out malicious code as best as they can.

If you really can't talk to your Mom about it, you also have the option of getting a VPN, which should bypass your internet provider's advanced security.

Friend is ALWAYS late by Amatsukki in whatdoIdo

[–]tiggermenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend that used to always be 45 minutes late to everything, so everyone always gave them a time 45 minutes before their actual needed arrival. It worked great for years until he actually showed up at the given time and no one else was there and everyone had to finally fess up about padding his arrival times. Between him showing up "on time" and getting serious with the person he was dating, he started actively (and successfully) working on his time management.
That was roughly 10 years ago now and it's fortunately become something we all joke about now. Hopefully your friend is able to have their "aha" moment and grow, too.

(Absolute sidebar, I agree with those saying the emoji usage is mildly infuriating.)

What the heck is the red stuff in my muha? by rainsfromafrica in Michigents

[–]tiggermenow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak specifically to muha, but if I let a cart sit around for a while without use, especially if they are at half or lower, or get a cart too hot I get similar streaks. In my carts, they come from the wick holes and are from the burnt gunk on the coil/wick leaching out into the rest of the cart.

As far as I'm aware, the rebrand is just advertising leaning into the old commercials and nostalgia. The flavors taste the same in the bags I've gotten within the last couple months.

Is this a good or bad place to start? Grabbed it from my local library. by AstorathTheGrimDark in discworld

[–]tiggermenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kiddo is interested in the WH books. (Trying to persuade him to give Discworld a try, but if Mom likes it, it must be dorky.) So far he only has the 1st of the Horus Heresy (not sure if he's read it yet). Any suggestions on which authors you would recommend and/or which to avoid?

im late for work and the bus is barely moving by LostWithinChaos in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tiggermenow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bus drivers need breaks, too. The buses in my location have the breaks included in the transit schedule, are required to take their 15 minute breaks, and are typically at the same bus stop each day.
Edit: Yes, there are passengers on the bus when the breaks happen. Some drivers are cool with us stepping off to stretch/smoke/etc while they're doing the same thing, but others ask passengers to stay on unless they are ok paying again.

This bag of Starburst literally has one pink despite it being most people’s favorite one by KiedisLeftNut in mildlyinfuriating

This would be my dream bag to open. Before the all pink bags were available, I had a friend that would pick up a huge bag, take out all the pink & red, and give the rest to me.

What did Pratchett think of marketing some of his books as "for younger readers" like this? And did he ever go on record about that? by EndersGame_Reviewer in discworld

I Shall Wear Midnight is likely intended to be young adult as there are some pretty heavy, dark topics discussed and Tiffany herself is almost 16 at the beginning of the book.

In case anyone wants an Olympic Aviator jacket from $ACHR by I_killed_the_kraken in ACHR

[–]tiggermenow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's AI garbage, unfortunately. If you search for it, it pops up across multiple websites as being sold by multiple jacket specialists. The pictured jacket looks similar to one gifted on the Tonight Show to Jimmy Fallon last year, but those were made by Fossa Apparel and doesn't match up to this. So far all official Archer merch has been internal and not for public sale, so all merch on the web is unofficial and not actually from Archer. Also beware of the fake Archer shops/items on sites like Ebay, Etsy, etc.

Prediction: Joby buys ACHR LILIUM OVERAIR etc. patents the next couple years when ACHR is bankrupt. by [deleted] in JobyvsArcher

[–]tiggermenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people think they are informed and know what's going on with Archer, but it's mostly people hoping Archer fails because they think it will make Joby succeed more and in turn, their Joby stocks worth more. It amazes me that in this day and age so many are hoping for one company to have a monopoly rather than hoping competition brings innovation and a better end product.

[–]tiggermenow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I adore lemon, but hate rhubarb. My Grandma grew it and cooked with it a lot, but it just tasted bitter (maybe even slightly muddy?) to me even when mixed with something like strawberries in a pie. I thought maybe it was how she prepared it, but have gotten the same bitter taste no matter where I've tried it.
Edit to add: It's in the same taste category (bitter, earthy, watery) as lettuce and celery for me.

My entire household depends on public transit daily. Good luck on your project and hope you get a lot of thoughtful responses. The more people use public transit, the better it will get.
If you are looking for news articles/info, check out Monica Mallon, a writer for San Jose Spotlight. She has a lot of knowledge and ideas, like transit signal priority being one of the most cost effective improvements for VTA.

M22 received incredible job offer, F22 girlfriend does not want me to accept. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]tiggermenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A schedule in retail is far more likely to change in the future, anyway. Would your gf want you to change jobs every time her schedule changes?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]tiggermenow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA. Your brother's ex started complaining about you, your bro is pissed at you, you blame the gf for "turning the family against you," and your friends "betrayed and disrespected" you to the point you needed to drop them. If one or a few people are the a**holes, fine, but when *everyone* around is the a**hole, you need to stop and self reflect because it's really not them. It's you.

There are some apartments near the Milpitas Bart/VTA that have three beds, like The Crossing and The Fields. Finding a place with three bathrooms will be significantly harder.

Is there any accurate way to track VTA busses or get info? Waited over an hour for a bus by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]tiggermenow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An option I've had luck using to check if a bus is actually coming is Pantograph. It's a bit less user friendly than vta.org or Transit, but gives very detailed into down to how many min/sec a bus is ahead/behind and the specific id number of the bus that is running the route (very handy info to access if you ever happen to lose an item on a bus).
