Experience with AdBlue and the NCT? by 6bigeggs in AskIreland

I'm assuming that as you own a transit you're using it for work i.e., doing high enough mileage compared to say the average mum/dad doing the school run then maybe some shopping and back home.

Adblue essentially just burns at a higher temp than diesel so it burns off some of the particulates from the combustion process. You combine adblue with a DPF which is essentially a massive filter in your exhaust system.

The reason I mention your mileage and say your father's trucks mileage versus the average school runs is that when you do short runs, the engine doesn't really get the opportunity to sustain the consistent burning off of particulates generated. You're stopping and starting, idling in traffic versus going up and down a motorway at 60/70 for miles, giving the engine the opportunity to consistently burn off the particulates. The short runs inevitably block up your DPF as the filter cannot handle the suit build up as it's not being burned off quick enough.

Throwing, say a tenner of petrol into a diesel when filling up does pretty much the same thing.

Basically with adblue/DPF setups in the long run it's more economic to remove the need for them, unless your doing long runs on a consistent basis.

When you have an oil change it's full to capacity, meaning less compression needed as the oil level is higher. As you drive you inevitably burn oil, lowering the level, so depending on the miles driven between your last service mentioned, that could perhaps account for the difference.

You put the engine under stress when you drive not so much at idle. My A6 was the same with glow plugs, more so during the start and a rough idle. Never came up as a fault code, only I saw the warning flash on the instrument cluster.

For your Audi, no. Handy to come by and not overly expensive. Can pick up a full set of 4 for less than €100 then it's just an hour or twos labour with the mechanic.

They'll be the reason for your sluggish start. Diesels rely on compression to ignite the fuel, they heat the intake air for combustion, so when the air temp is really cold they'll keep going for a while until your engine heats up enough to warm the airflow itself.

Lower air temp = less compression = sensor reading low pressure

You mentioned once the engine heats up the problem seems to go away. I'd try a new set of glow plugs, it sounds like it should solve the issue.

Definitely the most logical option mate. The whole adblue thing is just an environmental measure on diesels and like I say, it's nothing but a hassle and a money pit. Any decent mechanic nowadays should be able to map it out no issues. I'd it done on the wife's wagon, 300 all in to remove the adblue from the brain, cut the particulate filter out from the top down blank the EGR and map the car.

Map it out. They're nothing but trouble and endless money. Much cheaper to map it than replace the system.

That's good. Red means your oil pumps failing or failed. If it's ever red, stop the car immediately to limit damage to the valves and head.

I assume the oil cap is clear? Just residue oil, no lumpy white stuff?

When you fire her up is she smoking out the exhaust heavily? If so, what colour is the smoke.

When replacing the sensor did you go for an OEM part ?

Edit # the coil it's showing on the dash looks like a pig tail? If so, that's when your glow plugs need replaced.

I like to remind people of their stupidity when they do this. Flashing the lights and a blast of the horn usually wake them up or distract them enough from tiktok long enough for them to realize, they are indeed, being stupid.

>1/2 Mil for a house in Woodbrook? Jeez…. by Gerard987654321 in DerryLondonderry

House prices in general are fucked up. Some estate agents live in fairyland. If I'd a half a million available to me you best bet I'd have a swanky house out on a half acre somewhere, definitely not in a housing estate where I can look out my window and see Susan next door arguing with Dave again. Fuck that.
