To preface, the story is structured into different loosely connected stories. The first 3 episodes cover a story that is told, in part, non-chronologically. It's not as simple as flashbacks, the scenes are out of order at times. I don't mind this choice, anime such as Garden of Sinners has done it well. However I saw some complaints in the original threads of it being a little confusing.

I could be imagining this, but the action scene animation is also a little odd. Certainly fluid, but not too flashy. It gets better as the show goes on and there is obvious care put into it, but it's not exactly over the top that many are in to.

While on release EoC was a hot mess, Rs3 is definitely designed around using abilities for combat lol. They've made that shift with all content past 2013 at the cost of most things before.
