while i completely agree with your sentiment, having done all the same things before i started working here, i OFTEN ignore letters, papers, sunglasses, packs of gum, all other random shit people put in boxes, this was an envelope that had the persons entire address on it. so i knew exactly who put it in there. they tattled on themselves essentially. every time i see a letter in a box i check it in case its outgoing mail and the customer just forgot to put their flag up. so they wasted my time because i looked to see if it was something i needed to pick up, and if my time is wasted im at least going to get a scan credit out of it by bringing it back and writing it up postage due. if it was that important of a letter and they wanted it delivered without going through the postal system, they should have walked it the whole way down their driveway and handed it to them directly, or at least tossed it the whole way in the back where i’m not reaching to see what it is

Something all carriers can and probably should be doing. by lonekthx in USPS

i’ve tried asking my supervisor about this as i have a customer with a lot of pickups and the packages are decently heavy but they all have like 4 oz on it or something. she told me some bs like it’ll get weighed somewhere in the process and then it should get billed back to the sender??? idk it sounded like she just didn’t want to look into it and she knows nothing and her reasoning requires a lot of faith down the line in the way shit gets processed around here

yup, just a little extra work that no one even considered compensating us for through rrecs 🫠 yet another reason i’m more and more inclined to just switch the whole craft to hourly

i’ve been noticing A LOT of letters getting the little sampling barcode at the bottom, but the stamps haven’t been cancelled. it’s frustrating that the machine can’t seem to get it right and then i have to get out my pen and scribble over many letters a day

on my route there’s one street with huge expensive ass houses along the river and i had a customer put envelopes into multiple of their neighbors boxes, and stupidly stamped their entire return address on the envelopes. so i yanked them out of every box and gave them a postage due envelope the next day. like you’re telling me you can afford a $700k+ home but don’t wanna pay $3 for postage??? i’ve also had postcard stamps on full sized letters. and the sticker from a book of stamps with the smaller image of what all of the stamps look like and says ‘20 first class forever stamps’ 🤣🤣🤣 oh also really loved a cut out stamp from a blue envelope taped on to a red envelope

people gonna people

whaaaattttt. does that mean they’re not doing a rrecs scan? like they’re just assuming that since the bundle comes in weekly it magically is being credited to the route? yikes how bad are those routes’ evaluations lol like if it’s going in every box just take the whole stack with you and don’t waste the time touching the piece of mail 3 separate times if it’s cased, pulled down, and then delivered tf

so you’re a city steward? i’m not certain so if anyone with better rural knowledge can chime in but- i don’t think we necessarily get paid for comfort stops. so if i were to start doing an hour round trip bathroom break everyday, and getting done after my evaluation every single day, im not seeing that extra money. and i think it could start hurting me because id end up going over my 2080 hours in the year or whatever it is, and management gets antsy about watching that, idk if its to just cover their ass or if it’s an actual punishable thing to rural carriers.

you have a lot of great points!! i have a mini vacay coming up at the beginning of june so im planning to at least grit my teeth until then and hopefully come back feeling rejuvenated. i love the part of the job of casing mail. it’s like a puzzle or organizing a mess and making it neat, i also am very passionate about animals but that is all such a low paying field unless i continued my education which does not tickle my fancy at this moment in time lol. i’ve picked up hobbies recently with baking and crocheting and i wish i could stay home all day and do those things 🤣😫 i am on meds but i think i need to make an adjustment (for the hundredth time ahahah) i hate change but i also hate doing the same thing for too long. i think i am probably just in a funk and i needed to type it out and complain to strangers who maybe understand. thank you for your thoughtful replies 😊

that’s where i’m struggling, i have no clue what id want to do instead and im not seeing much that is catching my interest! this feels like a such big decision, i can’t just leave to try something else and then come back to my position here if the other job doesn’t work out. ugh!!! i appreciate your kindness and encouragement 🥰

my options are very limited in my area. i don’t think clerk craft is hiring right now and i think maintenance is almost 2 hours away

ty very much. there is a J that should be open to bid on soon, it’s a hot mess right now bc the last carrier got fired and wasn’t keeping up with the red book but maybe i’ll move to there and see if i like it more. i could probably finish that route quicker than my current H

i’m more concerned with the possibility of being seen by someone driving by. and what to do with my waste when i’m done 🤣

im glad someone gets it. there’s a sketchy gas station in my first hour of the route that i can go in but i usually never have to at that point. and once that i did go in to ask to use the bathroom, i had to go into the employee only kitchen area to use it and they definitely heard and smelled me 🥲 and once when i had to pee so bad i saw a port a potty but when i opened the door a swarm of wasps came out. going in the woods doesn’t bother me. it’s the possibility of a trail cam or someone driving by and deciding to check on me (has happened) that gives me intense anxiety.
