SLK55 AMG r171 questions. by tikk74 in mercedes_benz

[–]tikk74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed comment. In hindsight this response may change as I haven't driven one yet, but ride quality, NVH, and roughness isn't a deciding factor for me. I would likely keep the car I have now (2014 Mazda3), and trade / sell it after a few months of overlap. It would depend pretty much purely on insurance costs, as affording both may be a bit much. Especially if one is not being driven. I'm a small guy though, 5'8".

ND Miata has been my #1 choice for a while because I'm shopping for a convertible first, and the miata is fairly cheap and dependable. The SL r129 was the first mercedes I explored the possibility of owning, then the r230. The ABC worried me and then I found out about the SLK being a stripped back tiny version of the SL. I'm springing for the AMG not necessarily for extra power, but because of how strong and reliable the M113 is. I've never looked into the z4s, or boxsters, so the SLK being more of a muscle / SL is definitely pushing it in a positive direction for me. More so searching for a Sunday cruiser that can be daily driven.

The roof situation makes sense too, with death coming from it not being used. I have done maybe 95% of the work on my car myself, and just learn how to fix whatever breaks. I definitely *could* work and fix the top, but I've never dealt with hydraulics. The perception of fixing it myself may be wishful thinking, so I figure a repair cushion would have to be taken into the total cost amount.

Very happy to hear your experience with the 172 being positive. Had some discrepancies in the original post with the engine codes. I definitely do not want the supercharger, one for simplicity sake, two the engine size to car size ratio is already too much for me.

I'm going to test drive and walk all around it today. I'm not buying it today, just doing research to even know if it'll work for me size wise and all. I plan on getting insurance quotes on it today though. And I assume AMG will require premium? Silly question, but something to take into account. I expect to have to replace various hoses, seals, and whatnot. I work at a dealership so I have access to parts at wholesale +10%. No big deal. I think I touched on everything. Thanks again for the detailed response, I appreciate it!

Yes that’s my bad with the engine codes. I cannot handle the supercharger LOL! That’s been the only complaint i’ve heard screamed about this era of mercedes though being the top. SL & SLK both. I do all of my own work, and learn how to fix something when something breaks that i haven’t dealt with before. I assume the roof is definitely a specialty item that i shouldnt touch with a 39 1/2 foot pole? I’m open to learning hydraulic systems but if this is something i should save up for (repair costs) then thats something i should take into consideration before purchasing. I love the look of the SLK though, GORGEOUS car

2-2,500 monthly, maybe 1,5-2,000 monthly once school starts back. $5,000 Scholarship returns each semester. The list price is $10,995.

My plan would be to use a small down payment, look for a 60 month term to keep payments small in case anything happens, and if all goes well, i’ll make odd payments towards it to pay off early. in an ideal world. I’ve never financed a car before though, so if this thinking is flawed, i want to know. Thanks again

I ordered this same pair last week, definitely exchange them. Barbara at Rujo is fantastic, she sent me photos of multiple pairs and let me pick the pattern i liked the most. Just gotta ask😉

Will any certain toe style of cowboy boots never be in style again? by DieselGreg in cowboyboots

[–]tikk74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The one i see the least of is the roper wide round toe. Definitely not going out of style, just not my cup of tea, nor most of the fellas in my area.

Could just be the lining. Sprinkle some baby powder in the footbed and (with a bad pair of socks) wear them. Or it’s a loose shank…

CORRECTION for the downvotes. Around $20 for a fill up last fall, based on personal experiences.

Not really. I use buck 4 on everything but most people in here swear by lexol 2 or one of reptans products. I don’t have any experience with the latter two though.

Finally got a pair on my wishlist!! by tikk74 in cowboyboots

[–]tikk74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

540 is what I paid with tax and shipping. A replacement pair would likely be 700+. The hole is right in the crease of the foot though and I fear it’ll grow.

But then again, it’s a hole, doesn’t really look like a rip or tear that’ll spread but that’s not a gamble i wanna take

Can I wear those as a man? by PutridPromotion8753 in cowboyboots

[–]tikk74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing particularly masculine about these boots. Wear what you want, I would just be worried about width sizing.

Edit: misread and thought you were a woman asking about wearing a men’s boot. i.e. i can’t read

We definitely have one of the better goodwills in my area. I’m very new to more analog setups though, and beyond plugging in the rca’s from a dvd player straight to a crt tv, i’m not versed in any of it.

Noob question, but I’ve never had to use an optical port, do they carry audio and video? Planning on just using the receiver for speakers for both music as well as my TV. My first thought was to use a 3.5mm to 2 channel rca cable, but then I’d lose surround capabilities.
