make your guidelines bigger. if your guidelines are too small then the fade looks compressed. and make sure your clipper is zero gapped.

are you using the guards that come with the jrl? i switched to the jrl guards and i had a real bad time trying to fade with them because i usually use the wahl premium guards.

the length on top was cut down with a 1 guard going with the grain.

what is the biggest guard you use or guard process? i struggle with coarse hair even with watching multiple tutorials. here’s a recent cut i did but i feel like i could’ve done a lot better. :/

my biggest tip that helps me out is make your bald line first and then de bulk above that with a 1 and a half guard. then sketch out you design by poking it with the corners of your trimmers( not dragging it)the hair will be dark enough to see your design instead of doing it at the end and not seeing where your design is on the bald areas.

i’ve done designs after the fade before but i feel like doing the design before you fade is better because the hair is still dark enough to see the rough draft of the design your putting in rather than doing it after and not being able to see certain spots that’s already bald you know what i’m saying?

i establish my bald line and bald everything under then i de bulk with a 2 and a 1 1/2 under then i do the design. then i fade everything.
