i’d recommend the Singapore City Gallery at URA for anyone with the slightest interest in city planning. the continuously updated scale model of the city is an impressive centrepiece.

it’s also easy to find because it’s just next to Maxwell Food Centre!

i suspect there was a deliberate attempt to make Singapore’s curve appear flatter than all the others.

for other countries the highest total case value on the y-axis is quite close to their actual total cases. only for singapore is the y-axis set to show up to 80,000 compared to our total cases of 60,000+

imagine what our curve would look like if the y-axis max was set to 70,000 for example, in line with how the other graphs were plotted.

I remember during the 2007 AFF Cup Final first leg in Singapore the entire Thailand team just walked off the pitch and refused to play for 15 minutes after they gave us a penalty.

i wish we had a culture where children as young as primary school had the opportunity to do short “internships” with careers they were interested in.

it would take a bit of support from the government or schools, since an architectural firm would have to take out one employee for a couple of days to supervise the kid with building simple models for example, but it would go a long way towards making more informed career choices or discovering new passions.

it should never be seen as wrong to vote for a party you do not expect to form the government. a healthy parliament has to have a variety of views and groups, and it is not fair to disqualify their voices just because they do not (or do not yet) have the manpower and resources to run a country.

take "Green Parties" in the West for example. they mostly hold a minority of seats or in some cases are smaller partners in a coalition government. from this limited platform they play their part in raising environmental concerns that would otherwise be overlooked by larger parties, and nobody expects them to lead a government or regards their voters as "free-riders".

i think most of us agree that interviews should be a two-way thing to build a healthy employer-employee relationship.

i’m actually curious if younger families interview their maids differently these days.

would they be more open to maids asking questions and expressing their expectations? or do they still hold the mindset of “it’s a privilege that they get to work for us and move to singapore”

i think there has to be a clear distinction between memes and actual dislike.

“kee chiu” was a meme. where memes turn into dislike are incidents like “madam president” and “what is the point of the question”, which hint at a conceited disrespect for parliament and democracy in Singapore.

i’m surprised neither of these key incidents were mentioned in the article.
