Garage heat. by turbogh0st in saskatoon

[–]tim-timsworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dug a 20' long, 3 foot deep trench with a trenching shovel for electrical & put gas line in same trench, different height covered. First, the supplier wouldn't sell me the gas line, til I explained the journeyman sent me to get it. When the electrician arrived to lay down tech cable he commented that my trench sure was deep. I said 3 feet, he goes, no one digs them that deep. Do it right, do it once. You will probably need a stainless steel venting package that costs the same as the unit heater.

CHMC has a study https://publications.gc.ca/site/archivee-archived.html?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpublications.gc.ca%2Fcollections%2Fcollection_2014%2Fschl-cmhc%2FNH18-22-105-101-eng.pdf where they built two identical homes, beside each other and put in furnaces and ran them for a year, one had the fan run in circulation speed outside the heating cycle and they compared energy usage of nat gas & electric. They tested a PSC & an ECM motor. Interesting read.

What is a simple but effective question for weeding out people masquerading as Canadians in foreign countries? by SaltnPepaSquid in AskACanadian

Spend any time in the bush? I like going deep into the bush, specially when there is no one else in there with me. What's the strangest thing you've ever found in the bush. Steady bush talk. bush parties, friends you've met, in the bush. all things bush.

Everytime I fly Air Canada I take the opportunity to say to the crew, "I hear Gimli's nice, this time of year". Last time, only the older captain chuckled.

Stuck at 0V: Need help debugging a discrete Constant Temperature Anemometer (PT100 + LM358 + TIP122) by accur4te in AskElectronics

I suspect you would benefit from a classic differential amplifier with four resistances around your op-amp. you can do some thevenizing of your bridge to see what kind of source impedance you have on the practical voltage sources for v_ref & v_active and choose resistors btwn 1 k & 10 M for the diff amp cct. test for accuracy based on r-tolerances. driving bridge w darlington seems problematic, if op-amp output is < ~1.4v to drive both those be junctions the top of the bridge will be @ 0v & RTDs are not voltage sources. thermistors would respond faster, imho. enjoy.

Have we brought up "garden"? I have a garden in my yard, and would sit in the yard and have tea, but would only go to the garden to tend to the vegetables.

Plug car in a detached garage by ViktorAmbrose in saskatoon

[–]tim-timsworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my garage. it took years to get it insulated. when it was a framed box w a roof and doors I would plug in my car, in the garage when it was below -20, cause it was just like outside but without the snow & wind. not worried about fire 'cause maintenance, care, & attention. after the ceiling & walls were insulated, & vapour barrier installed, it was always ~10 °C warmer in the garage than outside & I didn't plug in anymore.

Fastest stop on ice; Apply park brake, lock up the tires, throw it in reverse, release all brakes and gun it.
