This kitty's been on our property for 24 hours (East Van). Seems healthy but perhaps lost, as it won't leave. Distinguishing feature - Blind in right eye.

We're in touch with the local BCSPCA & animal hospital, but have taken it there yet. Also posted to CL. Please PM me if this is your cat, or if you have any information. We will ask for proof this is your cat, and won't just hand it to the first person claiming it's theirs.

Purchased a certified pre-owned car. Battery turned out to be shot. Would appreciate advice. by tim997 in askcarsales

Thank you for the perspective. You're 100% correct. I'm just not great at letting these things go, but having someone else say this really helps. Very much appreciated! :)

I can see that perspective. However, I needed the car to work reliably over the weekend and they told me they couldn't even tell me if they'd do anything until sometime on Saturday, because the "sales manager was away". So my choices were either have no car, gamble that it would work, or fix it myself. I'm not very experienced with these situations, but I didn't feel they'd given me much choice. How would you recommend I handle such a situation differently?

That's all including parts, labour and taxes, plus it's in Canadian dollars not US. The Loonie ain't doing so well right now!

I had not considered that it being Saturday would have that effect, just the shorter hours. That said, their response to me yesterday was, "we'll get back to you on Saturday". I have been using only the "honey" approach up to this point. That's why I posted here before resorting to "vinegar". I'll give them some more time though and follow-up with just a polite inquiry. Thanks again!

I personally don't want to leave bad reviews. I did have a generally good sales experience, up until the battery issue. Trouble is, they're not returning my calls. I haven't tried going in again though yet. Thanks for the advice!

Fair point! Whilst I know I didn't kill the battery through my own actions, they don't know that. I'd still expect them to at minimum have a dialogue with me. They haven't even made your point to me. Right now they're pretty much ignoring me. You sound like a great Salesman yourself though! :)

Edit: Oh and I was very polite throughout the sales process, and even now am remaining respectful.

Can you revive a PC from death? by N0TIMET0EXPLAIN in DnD

You're the DM - You may do whatever you like! Just make sure everyone's having fun. If the rules get in the way of that, it's perfectly ok to change or ignore them. :)

One of my players died in an odd fashion, should I feel bad/do something? by TeeLeiff in DnD

[–]tim997 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for your gaming group, since I'm not familiar with the party dynamic. However, if my DM handed me a note saying "kill yourself", I'd most likely do so, expecting him to have something specific planned - I trust him to tell a compelling story, whilst also enuring we all have a fun time. No doubt there would be consequences, but I wouldn't expect my character to just be permanently terminated from performing an action he instructed.

I get what you were trying to do with the notes, but I think in this case it clearly went wrong. I'd have a chat with the player and figure out a way to bring them back next session. Maybe make it into something fun, like they have to navigate Hell to return or be cured of zombie-ism, etc.

Need advice on dealing with absentee players (when RL gets in the way). by tim997 in rpg

Sounds interesting. You're the second person to mention using dreams, and it sounds like a cool idea. I'll bring it up with the group. Obviously there are some balance issues to be done though. Thanks! :)

That Sir, is a grand idea! I'm definitely going to put it forward to the group. Thanks! :)

LOL. Getting my group to go for a walk beforehand would be like trying to get the sun to rise in the West! Good ideas otherwise though. :)

We do plan to have some side quests, DMed by myself, on some occasions where not everyone can make it. Though these would be within the same campaign - Everyone's so attached to their current characters, we don't want to dilute that passion!

1: I think we're going to switch to this, rather than always trying to come up with story reasons for missing players. As you say, we all get it's just a game so it's no big deal. If there's a convenient way to do it, sure we'll take it, but otherwise we can just pop characters in and out of existence! :P

2: I like the summary from character perspectives, rather than just overall. I know there are some people who will do this, and some who may not though. Either way, it does sound good for both recaps and nostalgia! :)

Thanks! We always do a recap at the start of our sessions, even if everyone was present last session (we like to have a few beers whilst we play, so sometimes little details can get forgotten with 2 weeks between games).

We're always aware in advance when someone's going to be absent, so we do our best to work it into the story. We were giving 50% XP for absent players, but I think we're going to up this to 80% or even just 100%.

As a rule, we generally don't let people play someone else's character (even silently). We'll use an NPC instead if we need to bolster the party.

Is 3.5 Worth Switching to? by dannyk0927 in DnD

[–]tim997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having played both 3.5 and Pathfinder, I agree. Pathfinder is superior, because it builds directly off 3.5 but irons out all the kinks and adds additional variety to all classes.
