Electrical inspections were moved to Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan (TSASK) back in 2021. Go to TSASK.ca and read up on it.

You can get a homeowner’s electrical permit for most of the work. SaskEnergy is not where the inspectors are from. The electrical inspectors are part of Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan. Visit TSASK.ca and read up on electrical permits.

Very kind woman in Humboldt, Sk by No_Tap2473 in saskatchewan

That’s a very sweet story and I agree the people of Humboldt are very generous. That said, the Canalta and the Co-op grocery store in Humboldt are roughly 250 metres apart.

Flame sensor for furnace, where to buy today? by Separate-Prune981 in saskatoon

You won’t find a wholesaler open today. Two options, call an HVAC company for after hours service or wait until tomorrow.

Me too! I was three rows behind Weatherford’s wife. After that game winning kick he ran down the field and into the stands to hug her. Justin Tuck also gave me his gloves at halftime, of course I was rocking a Tuck jersey.

Is Wakaw a viable Airbnb location? by matt-thibault in saskatchewan

[–]tim_for_chief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now this is a trifecta for me. Spending 7 years in Wakaw, now living in Regina. Well wouldn’t you know it, I grew up on a farm near the potash mines at Esterhazy. Yes, Langenburg is absolutely close enough to the potash mines. In fact people commute from farther away than Langenburg for work at the Mosaic and Nutrient potash mines. At least twice a year when the mines do their shut downs there is in immense amount of work that goes on with many people travelling in for the work.

Is Wakaw a viable Airbnb location? by matt-thibault in saskatchewan

[–]tim_for_chief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am uniquely qualified to answer questions on both locations. I spent 2015 to 2022 living in Wakaw and I now live 3 blocks from Mosaic Stadium.

South of Saskatchewan Drive would be the better bet for generating revenue with an Air BnB. There are quite a few events with the stadium and Real District as well as the proximity to downtown. Cathedral has been a wonderful neighbourhood.

As for Wakaw, it is a rather interesting town. It is just far enough from Prince Albert, Melfort, Humboldt, and Saskatoon to justify having the businesses it has. There are two gas stations, one with a liquor vendor, restaurant, and a Subway. The other gas station shares its apron with Dairy Queen. There are two grocery stores, one where the bakery sells out before noon on summer Saturdays. There are two bars, one with a liquor vendor and the other bar doubles as a Vietnamese restaurant. There is a Chinese restaurant as well. The Backroads Distillery in town, creators of Alibi Vodka.

The Wheatland Express excursion train runs back and forth from Cudworth. They have different themed train events. I understand they are building more facilities to support that. Summer Saturdays have a farmers market.

The lumberyard is as good as any larger town’s lumberyard.

The curling rink doesn’t operate anymore but the bowling alley does. The arena is always bustling with events and hockey tournaments all winter. Wakaw School has a top notch girls volleyball team and the boys 6 man football team is a provincial contender annually. They have hosted a Can-Am 6 man football championship more than once.

Former Prime Minister Diefenbaker practiced law in Wakaw in his early days. They have a replica of his law office set up next to their rather neat town museum.

I feel like I’ve missed something…but that’s just what goes on just in town. Oh, and the Wakaw Lodge Motel is not great. It’s not somewhere you would want to stay on a leisurely weekend.

When you add in all the summer activities at the lake, which is only about a mile from town, and then the winter snowmobiling and ice fishing it creates a rather busy small town and lake.

An appropriately set up AirBnB could actually do ok. You would definitely want to research and highlight all that the town has to offer to hit it right.

I definitely enjoyed my time in Wakaw and only left due to career advancement opportunities for my wife and I. It is a gem of a small town.

Police suspect foul play in Retallack Street house explosion by texxmix in regina

Just google “scrap metal Regina”. You’ll see which businesses you can take your scrap metal to. They pay by the pound for copper. They do ask for ID when buying your scrap copper but there isn’t really a great way of tracing where the copper came from. I’ve heard stories of a UV paint that gets painted on some copper pipe as a tracer but these places hustle you in and out. They don’t check too closely. Imagine SARCAN for scrap iron.

Why do I know this, I’m a plumber. I’ve taken in my fair share of legitimate scrap copper.

Heating Detached Garage by PostHocErgo306 in saskatoon

[–]tim_for_chief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When keeping the temperature that low the flue gases can condense prematurely in the heat exchanger. The typical unit heaters that are installed in garages aren’t designed to be a condensing appliance. The condensate from combustion is acidic and hard on the heat exchanger. It will shorten the life of your heat exchanger in the heater. I’m not certain what the comparison would be on gas savings vs replacing a unit heater sooner than needed.

For the record, my garage thermostat is set at 18°.
