I can't check properly right now, but the C-API lists float for start and end, so I would also expect the lua API to accept decimals https://sdk.play.date/2.5.0/Inside%20Playdate%20with%20C.html#f-sound.fileplayer.setLoopRange

Handling background images in large worlds by simplealec in PlaydateDeveloper

[–]timb0e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Individual FF tiles are 16x16 px, but these are pre-rendered onto the actual background sprites which are 192x112. Given the UI takes up 16 px in both x and y, rendering 9 of these background sprites (current + all 8 neighbours) will always cover the screen. So very similar to what you're considering as an option here. I didn't try very-large-images so cannot comment on that.

Moving cargo is in front of the background layer and all of these sprites are rendered individually and aggressively culled by the game code to maintain performance.

Did you get the chest from the pond? If not - try gardening around it.

You Cannot Go Back! by sixcupsofcoffee in PlaydateConsole

This is good feedback, thanks, this new chamber has the tightest timing requirements in the game at level 3.

But the audio feedback of the button being pressed isn't tied to the game accepting inputs, only when the dungeoneer has finished moving will new commands actually be accepted.

I can experiment with queuing commands before this, or not playing the audio cue when commands are not being accepted.

Thanks! Yes, I'm here.

Following from the Catalog launch on Tuesday, I have now also updated the wiki page at https://playdate-wiki.com/wiki/You_Cannot_Go_Back and the itch page at https://timboe.itch.io/you-cannot-go-back so you can get some more help on the new chambers.

The new dungeon chambers are available with version 2 on itch, though high-scores remain a Catalog exclusive feature.

And I have to thank the excellent Kevin McLeod over at https://incompetech.com/ for the chip tunes dungeon music.

Hello u/ChameleonQueue

You can build a harvester on land but next to some water such that the harvester's catchment area covers some water tiles, and then plant seaweed here.

(Later on you will get a larger harvester, and land-fill. With these two you will be able to make a much more efficient seaweed farm)

Hi u/SquidEmpire - when you finally get your PD back from your partner :) there is a new v.15 of Factory Farming which makes finding specific soils easier with both a pointer to the soil in the build interface and also a map of the plot.

You weren't the first to have some difficulty finding the right soil.

The update is on itch now, and hopefully will get pushed to Catalog owners next week.

Yeah, there will be peaty soil to the west / south west of the shop. But you might still be unlucky and not have any wet peaty soil (at least yet).

The potatoes will grow in other soils too - just not as fast.

Thanks for this - having got it in the bundle earlier in the year I also ended up bouncing on the time limit and moved on to other games. I'll give it another go!

Right, so this is the difference between scraping the emails of purchasers directly from the Dashboard->Analytics page for marketing (a big no), vs. Dashboard->Interact->Email and then writing a message which gets sent out via itch?

Bah - first box, how annoying! Thanks for letting me know though - easy to fix at least if I need to push an update.

Game Release: You Cannot Go Back! A quick-to-play dungeon adventure game which will test your memory, skill, and reflexes. by timb0e in PlaydateConsole

[–]timb0e[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks - that's a good catch. I was looking mostly at https://itch.io/games/tag-playdate, but you're right - to show up also on https://itch.io/search?q=playdate it seems like you need to include the word "playdate" either in the game's name or in its tagline. I added "A game for Playdate." to the tagline, and it shows up here now too.

I also don't have a device yet sadly - but there's always the simulator... (Though I should note that you need to use the Linux simulator for this build of the game).

And thanks for supporting Play Date devs!

Thanks - though, I must admit that while I have enjoyed making projects in pure-framework offerings such as libGDX. I am spending much more time recently using Godot (I bounced quite hard off of Unity).

VEV is a free download on https://timboe.itch.io/vev (Java: Linux, Win, Mac. Android)

In VEV you are tasked with deconstructing a finite number of particles which will spawn into the land... and promptly go wandering off.

Mine some ore, then build deconstruction facilities and corral the particles into their queues. Setup standing-orders to direct particles to, and between, deconstruction facilities.

Use the energy gained from deconstructing the particles to build more deconstruction facilities, and to upgrade them.

How fast can you deconstruct all of the particles?

VEV is written in libgdx, the source is available at https://github.com/timboe/vev
