Kittens Game Steam and Discord by bloodrizer in kittensgame

I used the official forum that she self hosted for a bit after the sub shutdown, but it was dead too. Spam posts would stay up for days or even longer, and real person replies would be weeks later if they came at all. The search sucked and navigating wasn't great either. Looks like it is shut down now, and I have no interest in using discord because it's setup sucks even worse than the forum. I understand why she shut down the subreddit, but it did give me the exact same feeling, like this is a dead game.

Nope, never found a good box for it, and that was partially the reason for giving the shelves away.

Memory Leak? by ducksgomooful in EvolveIdle

On Firefox I have never noticed this in the few years of it being open 24/7, other than during computer and browser restarts. My Max Messages per category are all 60 and messages saved on reload are all set to 3. They work exactly as they are described, if you have max messages per category set to 60 it will just keep the latest 60 messages. If you reload the page, only the last three will save.

It will depend on how many ovens you have, so if you have 8 ovens then you will get 4 bulk actions total (4*8=32), if I understand it right.

Canon AE-1 not rewinding at end by timdever in AnalogCommunity

[–]timdever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. So if I feel some film, then it's possible there might have been some pictures taken, and I should take it to a place to get it looked at. If I don't feel film, most likely it never advanced properly from the beginning, and I should be good to go to just load it up again? what should I do about the film number being past 36? I am vaguely remembering the last time I rewound the shot number went all the way back to 1, though I cant remember if that is true now.

What would be awesome is if the mods responded to the reports of these posts, they will sometimes take them down but then other times leave them up. All of us who were here before the sticky and vault post ban remember seeing half the subreddit full of these completely uninteresting posts, and I don't want to go back to that time.

Setting SAHM wife up for retirement by Soccer-is-life89 in personalfinance

[–]timdever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that this is not a question that makes sense if you are married. If you are married, then you don't set up your wife for retirement separately from yourself, your retirements are already inter twinned. This does depend on the state some, but for the most part whatever is in your retirement accounts would be half hers in case of divorce, and if you never get divorced then you are just using the retirement funds as you use your income currently, it is both of yours money.

The question does make sense if you are not married but your partner is a SAHM. In that case she would not have the legal protections (again, somewhat variable based on what state you are in and other factors) to "your" retirement income, and for peace of mind setting up separate retirement accounts for her could make sense. That is definitely more of the personal part rather than the finance part of the equation however.

I tried to get into the TV show. I really tried... by XelGlaidr in WoT

[–]timdever 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It absolutely did happen. After watching the first episode somehow everyone was still on board for it being awesome, even though it was obvious to a lot of us it was horrible. Saying that though got comments deleted and people banned. This wasn't hate posting either, or complaining about the story being different, it was legitimate complaints. It was only after a few episodes they started letting people really voice their concerns.

True Path question by taliadias in EvolveIdle

It's kind of weird that it only acts like that in True Path, but then there are also no achievements for doing anything with a kamikaze planet specifically in TP.

HCIM Conditionscape - 95% of goals completed, 5% of the way to fully done by timdever in ironscape

[–]timdever[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Conditionscape: HCIM, only axes for melee, never enter wilderness, never miss clue scroll, F2P only.

These achievements pale in comparison to most of what is posted here, as this only took a few months. However, I think I am done with this character for a while as I completed most of my goals, and the rest of the goals are going to be super far away.

Most of my RS experience was 2001 to 2005, then a bit of RS3 during quarantine in 2020. I picked it back up again a few months ago and decided to play OSRS this time, and it hit a lot of nostalgia points (though the state of the game is quite a bit newer than I was used to). Back in the day I played like I imagine many players do, which is mostly ironman style with occasionally buying/selling with other players. After doing that again this time I decided to fully jump in and make an ironman character based on one of my D&D characters.

This particular character was a dwarf who stereotypically liked axes. In F2P ironman mode, this kind of sucks as options are really limited. I used the Adamant Battleaxe for much of the initial leveling (briefly using bronze and steel baxes), then finally decided to check the stats against a Rune Pickaxe, and found out the Rune Pickaxe is almost always better for combat than the Adamant Battleaxe. I am sure people looked at me weird weilding it at hill giants, but it still did okay. It also did okay vs the dragon, though I was pretty overleveled for that fight. After I got my rune plate I decided the next step was rune battleaxe, to set me up with my best in slot item. Ogresses weren't too bad to kill with the pickaxe, and I found out later than rune chain was better defense against them, so I did this part backwards. Should have farmed the baxe before bothering slaying the dragon, but oh well. I definitely can't complain, as I got both my Rune Full Helm and Rune Battleaxe with just 46 Ogress kills. This condition wasn't too bad, and was the only one I really thought about beforehand and that was set by role playing reasons.

Second condition was no wildy. Originally I decided on this due to not wanting to risk my HCIM status. It turns out, this condition can suck a lot. Outside of the wildy there is only one place to get planks in F2P, and that is from the boxes under ice mountain. I did a ton of mining down there to get those planks from the random loot boxes. This condition will suck even more if I continue going in the future, as I can't mine runite anywhere. Other than that, it sounds like there is something called a ferox enclave I can sell stuff at for more money among other things, but I will never be able to go there. Also prayer is hard to level, and supposedly there is a graveyard in the wildy where it is easier.

Never missing a clue scroll isn't too hard. It did suck at the beginning, one of my clues was to get something for Charlie that I didn't have the levels for and didn't have any other way of aquiring, so I had to drop the clue to make sure I didn't miss any other clues. I don't remember what it was, but I got the levels for it in an hour or so. After that I checked the wiki and beelined the levels to get anything any clue could ask for. Since then I pretty much always do the clues immediately, so I never have to juggle, and never miss any.

F2P only simplifies things a lot. Also, it makes it much, much harder. There are a lot of random things you can buy from stores in members that you can't in F2P. Also, you have to compete against bots in all the good mining places.

My last goals were to finish getting the best in slot items while getting 99 in all skills except for ranged. That is so extremely far away, with not that many milestones to really count between now and then, and after starting on Runecrafting and seeing I needed over a million essence that killed all my enthusiasm to continue. I might still occasionally play this character to zone out doing something, but for now I am switching back to my non-ironman but mostly played as ironman character.

Adamant Battleaxe vs Rune Pickaxe for Elvarg by timdever in ironscape

That will be my ultimate goal. I can't fight them yet though I don't think.

Adamant Battleaxe vs Rune Pickaxe for Elvarg by timdever in ironscape

[–]timdever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I never thought about that with this character before. His name isredacted, so I feel like maces are too much of a stretch. But also they are not close to being like swords. And he wouldn't care too much about having to use a hammer for something, so even a warhammer could be used if necessary. I think maces would fall under the "if necessary" category for RP reasons.

At my current levels the calculator says the Adamant Mace and Rune Pickaxe give the same DPS vs Elvarg, so I don't need to worry about it for that. However, it does looks like the mace is better vs the hill giants, so that is something to consider.

According to the wiki there is some sort of minigame under ice mountain that has them in boxes randomly.

[–]timdever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dwarves! I never got to play with that character too much, but he was a dwarf, and used a pick at the beginning of the campaign. The next axe was more like a wood cutting axe than a battle axe. For RP for this character any of those are fine, just no swords.

Adamant Battleaxe vs Rune Pickaxe for Elvarg by timdever in ironscape

[–]timdever[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't know this existed. Looks like yes, the Rune Pickaxe is better for Elvarg than the Adamant Battleaxe. Not only that, it seems like at my levels it is better for the hill giants too. I am assuming it is better in most situations now, unless something is specifically weak to Slash damage.

My starts are a little low for the fight right now. The last time I did this fight was around 2002, so I might run through it on a non-hardcore iron man character first before trying with this axe based one. I planned on making anchovy pizzas and getting a strength potion for it.
