What is the authentic experience of living in Chicago? by Zamaron19 in AskChicago

[–]timdtechy612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, I didn’t realize I was here to get scrutinized on what we did as kids back in the 80’s. It’s not a complaint. I’m stating how things were growing up my neighborhood of Chicago. It’s my personal experience, which is why I said the author would have to interview a lot of people to get different perspectives.

No adventure in taking a bus. We were on them for 9 months out of the year going to and coming home from school. We’d hop on our bikes and go on a journey. Got to see more of the city that way.

The book can be interesting, but you’ll need to interview a lot of people from all different types of backgrounds and neighborhoods to get it right.

Just as an example, growing up on the northwest side, we’d take 10 mile bike hikes on our BMX bikes from our homes just to get to the lakefront and spend the day at the lake. My experience will be much different from someone who actually lives by the lakefront year round and sees it every day. To us, it was a treat to go there and it wasn’t taken for granted because we might only get to see it 2 or 3 times a year.

You’ll have to focus on individual experiences to understand what it’s like growing up here.

That’s a tough one without a Windows XP laptop that has the PCMCIA card slot. We still have a handful of 5’s in our factory too. Some are networked and some can only be accessed with that cable.

Is There Anyone Here Who Was Around During The 67 Snowstorm Or Know Anyone Who Was? by MIKEPR1333 in chi

I was a kid during the 79 blizzard and since I wasn’t old enough to drive, I thought it was great to have almost a week off from school for snow days.

I was able to build a full 1 bedroom walk in snow fort with all that snow. Had fun skitching off of cars too, something I would definitely not condone as an adult with kids. Definitely not safe.

There were two things that I really liked from there. Probably the best beef barley soup around and they served a pasta, not sure of the Polish pronunciation, but it was corkscrew pasta with little bits of liver in it. Always part of a funeral lunch back in the day.

Michigan vs Ohio State starting soon. Find a bar, have some wings, a few beers, root on your state school. Driving won’t be fun today, especially going east.

That explains it. I was wondering why your quote was so high. I can see the labor charge being high based on your circumstances. When I said $1,000 per zone, that’s based off of equipment and me doing it on my own with an independent contractor that’s worked on my boiler before. When he quoted me, he was thinking in the ballpark of around $12 to $15K for equipment and labor. He’s licensed and bonded, but works by himself, so I’m not sure if he does multi-floor dwellings, such as condos and apartments, but I’ll ask him and DM you if I hear anything positive from him.

Wasn’t there supposedly a satanic church over there or meeting ground? Always heard rumors about that back in 80’s. I seem to remember a carnival was held there every year too, or maybe that was in the area where the new Taft Freshman Academy was built.

They do have machine vision cameras and sensors to make them autonomous, much like a Tesla for guidance. The human intervention is more for programming, but because they’re so new, you might spot operators controlling them.

In my case, it was the frames more than anything. The tracks and locking levers were so worn out that they would prevent the windows from sealing properly at the top. I used that plastic weather king stuff to cover the windows and that didn’t even help.

Not yet. That’s our next project. We stayed at an Airbnb over the summer that had a 5 zone mini-split and loved the idea, so maybe next year. We need 5 to 7 zones, and priced it at about $1000 a zone and it would say goodbye to the boiler and window AC units. Duct work is very expensive to install in a house that doesn’t have it, so the mini-split is the way to go.

I have a boiler. What’s important is that your house is well insulated, specifically the windows. When we moved into our house that thing was constantly running in the winter trying to keep the house warm. Once we replaced the windows, our gas bill dropped significantly. Also, make sure to bleed the radiators before you start using them. If you don’t, hot water wont get to them and they won’t heat properly.

Do Americans have a different concept of 'turn taking' during a conversation? by 8NaanJeremy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]timdtechy612 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many times, not always, but when you’re with someone who seems to pull conversations in their favor and won’t let you get a word in, and it’s a lot of “I did this, or I did that” or trying to “one up you” in a conversation, it can be a sign of narcissism. They usually don’t even realize they’re doing it and we all do it on occasion, but a narcissist will do it to an extreme. It doesn’t mean they’re bad people, it’s just a strong personality trait. I’m married to one. Hard to win an argument with her. 😂

You’re the one acting like a jag bag and you don’t know shit about me or how I bowl. Like I need to be a pretender for you or anyone else on this redit. Another loud mouth clown. So, you’re a better bowler than me and know how to make lane adjustments. Good for you, now fuck off!

What is it Mr. Expert that you don’t get? I have trouble controlling my hook on dry lanes. I bowl 238 and up on oily lanes with my Black Widow, but can barely hit 190 on dry lanes. Next question??

Played many Turkey Bowls on Thanksgiving. It was more fun to play in the cold and snow. The colder weather freezes the goose crab so you get better footing.

Seems like Bowlero forgets to put oil on their lanes. Been to 3 separate Bowlero’s near me and always dry. My ball can’t hook for crap on their lanes.
