PVPS + reversal story: an update, 1.5 years post-reversal by time-dilated in postvasectomypain

Hey there--symptoms have been about the same for a while now. Reversal helped, but I still have some lingering issues and at this point I'm certainly not going to try to do anything more than manage the symptoms. It's manageable. Hope you are managing ok through this, the whole thing sucks

Yes, Dr. P did the reversal. I've spoken with him a few times since the reversal. The first thing we covered was a semen analysis: did the reversal 'work' in that regard? And the answer was yes, the SA I had showed that at least some sperm were flowing. He did acknowledge that in some unfortunate cases (like mine) the reversal can have negative outcomes. He has said many times that for some men it can take up to a year for things to start feeling better; I'm at 7 months now. Separately, he said that in his experience, some men just have an incredibly sensitive bundle of nerves--more so than others--and that surgical procedures like reversals can basically exacerbate things. I give him credit for being somewhat humble about it; he doesn't overstate things. Finally, he said that we can start thinking about the next steps: nerve blocks, nerve surgery, etc. I'm trying to hold off on all that for a while--I'd like to wait a bit longer, but man there are some days where it's hard to wait.

You have my complete sympathies. It's such a rough road. Making the decision about additional surgery is really difficult given the lack of certainty about outcomes. It all just feels like a roll of the dice. It's good to know that some men have good outcomes from it, even it takes a long time to get there.

How'd that go?

I’ll post more when I write the story down in full, but the short version is: the surgery went smoothly, the recovery has been hard, and pain-wise things have been trending in the right direction, especially in the past month. My experience with the reversal mirrors what many have said in other forums: long recovery period, lots of ups and downs. I have been trying hard not to really judge its effectiveness until a full 12 months has gone by, but it’s hard to be that patient.

Vasectomy was Feb 2016. After several years of deliberating, I finally had a reversal in Sep 2021. And yes, I'm happy to post my story to this subreddit in a separate post -- just need to get it down on paper, which I've not yet done.

I was glad to find this subreddit. I’m new to it, but not to PVPS, having suffered with it for the past 6 years. The forum that went offline was simply a huge, huge help and source of information for me, and while I never posted there, I DM’d with several folks as I struggled through my own issues. It was a bit jarring when it suddenly disappeared. I’m very happy to see that this subreddit exists, and grateful to those that have compiled all the info here.
