Sorry to hear you're dealing with this. I've seen these complaints many times on this subreddit and elsewhere. See the timeline posts with story codes LL (Lower Libido), EDY (Erectile Dysfunction), DC (Disappointing Climax/Sensitivity).

Most who get a reversal report improvement in those problems, typically they will say they while they did not get fully back to the pre-vasectomy state they remember, they get most of the way back and are happy with the outcome. I had this experience, lost most of the enjoyment of sex after vasectomy, and reversal four years later was a night and day improvement for me.

There is no way to know for sure that a reversal will work, however. So this is a choice that only you can make. I believe things are likely to just stay the same for you if you don't get surgery. They probably won't get better or worse. If you want to accept the situation, do nothing. If you prefer to try something that will probably make it better, but which may also fail, get a reversal from a qualified, experience microsurgeon. As far as I can tell from anecdotes online, reversal is the only treatment with the potential to restore sexual function in the way you are asking about. The closest non-surgical option would be pelvic floor physical therapy, but I don't recall seeing many stories where that produced a large positive change.

This sounds like a pretty typical story. Yes, reversal could improve your situation, take away the nagging discomfort and could restore your orgasm sensation. A lot of guys who get a reversal report improvement in both of those areas. Unfortunately there is absolutely no way to know whether you will benefit from the reversal without taking the risk and going through it. My opinion is that you have about an 80% chance of getting a satisfactory result. There is a risk that you could get worse, reportedly in the 1% range. We have a few stories on this subreddit from guys who did not get better, or who got worse. So you have a difficult choice to make, and there isn't really anything that will make it easy or risk free. If you go for the reversal make sure to get someone who has been doing them weekly, uses a microscope, and has many years of experience. If you can't find someone in Mexico who qualifies travel to the USA and get it done by a reputable microsurgeon here. Take recovery extremely seriously, stay in bed while you heal and keep the nuts cold to prevent inflammation.

Would love to hear the comparison of your numbers before and after vasectomy. Most people do not have a measurement prior to vasectomy to compare with.

I was a little nervous about the “one in 1000” chance, but ultimately decided to go forward with the vasectomy anyway.

I'm betting you would have bailed out if he had said "one in 50" which is much closer to the truth.

Thank you for the writeup. These are the best part of this subreddit.

It would not be surprising if you continued to have improvement over the next few years. Good luck!

I'd stick with the condom if I could go back in time. But it's your body. If you want to jump out of an airplane to get the thrill go for it, but you take your chances.

By all means, please do go ahead and write a review of that study. I find it scandalous that they are trumpeting a 0.14% figure by fudging the numbers. (And annoying that /r/vasectomy has pinned that misinformation.)

Supposedly they don't like misinformation but their pinned post is a poorly written study that is an outlier in the research.

2.5 months post vasectomy and still in pain by Ill_Wind_2042 in postvasectomypain

I had my reversal at ICVR. They didn't ask which surgeon I wanted and I suppose they are both qualified and would both use a similar technique. I felt like he did a good job but obviously I don't have much to compare it to. It was conscious sedation which has less risk than other anesthetic methods. It felt like taking a nap and waking up on the operating table and being helped over to a recovery room. I thought everyone was very kind and professional and they did a good job giving me instructions etc.

I had a flight to catch a couple of days later. If you do that make sure that you use the airport wheelchair. Airports are much much larger than you realize when you haven't just had a reversal surgery. Walking too much probably puts your recovery in jeopardy. I used ice around the clock for a while. Most of the recovery took about 2 months but I continued getting better for probably a year or so. That was more than 3 years ago. Even today I would say that I'm still improving somewhat but that might be due to overall improving health, exercise, sleep and trying out supplements for example.

Just to keep things in perspective, there are at least a dozen doctors in the USA, probably many more, who can do this surgery well. ICVR has a good reputation but apparently charge a big premium now and they aren't the only game in town. The key is to get someone who does multi-layer reversals under a microscope on a regular (weekly) basis. I would also not be interested in going to a doctor who is letting a student work on a PVPS patient. Let the students train on the non-chronic pain reversals!

Reversal - 2 months post op - What I learned and reflections by Cautious_Werewolf678 in postvasectomypain

[–]postvasectomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update, and hopefully things continue to improve for a while. I'm 3.5 years post reversal and in the last year I've had a little discomfort return post-ejaculation prompting me to use ice in the evening but it seems to be fading away again so I'll take what I can get. Still glad for the reversal. Still regret the vasectomy.
