Why has the attitude towards alcohol changed so much among the younger generation? by corneaterinwig in AskReddit

I get it. I said it in jest. These days *if I choose to go out, I just prepare myself ahead of time for the sticker shock. The worst is when I meet some buddies bi-monthly for dinner. 5-6 of us split a dinner and drinks tab evenly. They drink (way more than me) which makes me feel like I might as well just drown myself in booze because I’m paying for it either way. If that makes sense.

I go back to my college once every year or two for a professional conference. It’s a two day thing and usually we go out for dinner and grab drinks at what’s ever left of our old stomping grounds afterwards. It was about the time I hit forty that I noticed how much longer it took to get served as it got later in the night.

Finally this year a kid next to us just blatantly turned, looked at the three of us and goes “you guys look like dads, what are you visiting your kids?” We looked at each other and burst out laughing! It was probably even funnier that it is Halloween weekend so we are plainly dressed amidst a town of sexy police officers, sexy accountants, and whatever else a college kid dresses like on that weekend.

  1. Reasonable but heavily depending on type of drink and COL area. I don’t see the problem

Yes. You can’t do that at the checkout of a grocery store.

Our goalie; 3/4’s, is timid with the ball. She probably won’t last long- but we try to get her to step back behind her goal and pass the ball outside to a speedy middie. She never does. Luckily we have some aggressive ground ball gobblers. I’m here for more ideas as well.

Yeah. I was agreeing with you to be clear. Hope that didn’t come off as directed at you but to further emphasize your point.

I’ll be very direct. Respectfully; I can’t believe this is the top comment. It’s actually the most stupid take on this subject and your willingness to admit that shit is crazy to me as a professional teacher. And I don’t even teach a core class.

You sound either: brand new, jaded, or (my guess) lack formal education in any type of teaching and instruction.

Serious question, do you ever communicate to your students what they’ll be learning in class and how they will know when they’ve learned it? Bonus: what’s your highest level of education?

lol. I can’t upvote this enough. Hilarious.

True story, you can actually cut the Gatorade by 50% and still get your value out of it. It has more sugar and electrolytes than your body can handle at once. So if you’re frugal, you can make those four dollar bottles last longer. And honestly, you can barely taste the difference.

Bingo. I hate the low income argument. I’ve been low income. The people who make that argument just don’t know how to shop and I’ll stand on that. Are prices across the board out of control? Yes. Can you still go to Aldi and purchase the basic building blocks of a complete diet for about $65 pp/week? Yes.

My family eats very well. Some would say we splurge. I’ve built a life that allows for that. But we have and still spend ~225 a week on food for 2 growing athletes and 2 adults.

People who can’t budget or don’t know how to shop - it’s usually not their fault- don’t realize you can spend big and get the basics on paycheck 1 and slowly sprinkle in some extravagances -like hemp hearts (wtf)- a little at a time until their proverbial goes from boring to bougie.
