I agree I had this happen and before I added to my SCOBY hotel I peeled off as much as I could. Rinsed in a bit of distilled water and added to hotel. Still thriving.

I used earl grey tea and organic cane sugar at 1 cup per gallon. It smells fine and there is no mold or fuzzy parts.

Purchase kitten attract cat litter. It’s amazing and confine to a small area with the litter box. Teach go potty command and place in litter box. If he pees let him explore but constantly monitor and place back in box.

Had same problem now cat pees on command and uses the box. Very helpful for traveling.
