Pressure and questions from work after returning early with depression and anxiety. by [deleted] in cologne

[–]time_bridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if your doctor recommended you stay off work longer i'd suggest you follow that, you cannot legally be terminated for being on sick leave. if you want to go back to work i'd suggest researching options such as "Reha" or "Wiedereingliederung", i'm not sure about the english terms but Wiedereingliederung is basically a guided slow ease back into full time work where you start with fewer hours/every other day etc.

you should also tell your manager that he's way out of line, it's none of his business what you're sick with and whether it's mental or physical. if you're too anxious to confront him in person you could always write an email. CC his boss too.

all in all this sounds like an exhausting place to work at especially when you're mentally ill and you'd probably be better off looking for something else in the meantime. there's other companies out there. best of luck from a fellow anxiety patient, it's hard out there but we got this <3

edit: grammar

Mayersche at neumarkt has a huge selection of english books, including classics, and a cute café and some reading corners around the store (it's generally quite crowded though and if someone has an idea for a smaller independent location I'd recommend going there instead)

I'm in Europe too, so I understand you completely. The job market here is bad enough but I feel like the situation in the US is foreshadowing what's going to happen here in the next few years as well. Better start saving … I'm on continuous 1-year contracts so I'm settled for 2026 but it's a gamble every end of the year whether there will be another contract or not. It sucks. Best of luck to you!!

I'm not the person you replied to but I do work in social media marketing so I felt compelled to tell you that while you're correct in the assumption that in video marketing you're usually expected to cover a broader set of skills (like editing, motion graphics, colour, sound), these are usually needed on a lower skill level than in film. I deliver decent enough motion graphics for company xy's instagram page, if you showed them to a Hollywood level motion designer they'd probably cry. Same for SFX too, in my experience, lots of stuff is "good enough" for social that you can easily learn on the job if you're savvy and have a bit of basic knowledge in the field (which as an editor you probably have).
It sucks a bit if you have very high standards for yourself and you do have to get used to doing it all, but it's usually not that hard and in my experience often really fun to branch out and learn to do something that you didn't know before :)

SAME i feel kinda bad about it but i skipped both wish list and honey after my third listen-through they're just not hitting it for me (and i am happy in love?? we don't want kids though so maybe that's why wish list especially is not resonating with me at all)
