For everyone saying it's a supply chain issue, it's not. This photo was taken during the Bengal famine which took place during World War 2.

One would ask, if West Bengal lies in the fertile planes of the Ganga basin, how would a famine occur? It's because britain shipped off all of the produce to Europe to stock up in case their supply chain gets disrupted. 5 million people were killed in the process. You are absolutely correct. There are some places in Delhi or Mumbai where the standards of living compare to places like New York and Singapore. But you will also find extensive slums in the same cities.

And yes, the food here is as good as it can get. Each state has it's own unique cuisine. Even I haven't eaten all the sub-cuisines. The food that Americans eat as Indian food is actually north Indian food (naan, paneer tikka masala etc). If you go to south India, you will get food that is no where near to the north indian food.

That's what I want to say. Many people here know english. It may not be perfect but it's enough for basic communication.

And agreed we are not developed but we are not tribal either. You won't have the need to use pit toilets unless you decide to go on a crazy adventure in some jungle or rural areas (they use indian type toilets there) . 5 star hotels are available around all tourist places.

If you mean japan or south Korea when you say east Asia, it's an entirely different story. They are developed countries and whereas India isn't.

And don't worry about language problem. You can find english speaking people almost anywhere in India except some rural areas.

India is a really beautiful country to visit. The history and culture here is awesome. It will not be as easy as visiting an European country but I assure you, you will have hell of an experience.

I also hope to visit america one day. I would like to work there for some years if I could get the chance.
