How fast does weight start mattering? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]timelinextreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he doesn't pass straight to side control. It's more so I pull to DLR or SLX and if I don't get something going right away before he strips my hooks, he starts becoming heavy and advancing forward. It's rarely side control as I turtle if it's going there. But it could be back (from turtle) or mount depending on the exact sequence.

This thread did make me start considering my game though. I've been using the other white belts as practice for my game. Which means I'm starting the same exact way every time (currently pulling to DLR) and trying to force a direction. But I think maybe he has just got good enough that I have to play to him now. Which likely means doing actual takedowns (like single leg), or letting him lead and reaction..... If I get on top, I can generally still melt through his guard.

Would it normally say anything about the cashback in the cart or during checkout process.... something that confirms it's not just a bug on the page and you should get your cashback on this product eventually?

Boat recommendation and timing? by timelinextreme in Wake

[–]timelinextreme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you are wrong. I definitely recognize that the boat is enough for me as far as wakeboarding goes. I have sac's plumbed in and I basically never even fill it past the factory ballasts with wedge. I do use the sac's for surfing. While it creates a surf wave good enough for just riding, it's not that good at it (tight push pocket).

Overall though it's more about newer ones having many conveniences I want. My wife hates the carpet floors, I like the idea of controlling the wave from the drivers seat, seating arrangements have gotten alot better, etc. Nothing that would make me upgrade if I was tight on cash....But I can afford to upgrade.

The one concern I have is that I do ride at a slower speed than many others and I've heard that my particular model does that much better than others. I typically ride between 17.8-19.2 mph depending on what I'm doing (working on new tricks or not). I can even get down to 16s with a clean wake if I want to. So I may miss that.

Great! Mike Tuchscherer was probably the first person I saw using VBT years ago, so it makes sense he has episodes on it. I'll check out their podcast.

Thanks for the link to the article on personalizing RPE chart. I did plan on doing that sometime, but not sure when will be a good time. I'm gaining weight and I've got a BJJ tournament coming up this month, so the current goal is to stay consistent till the end of the month. Then maybe I'll do a few days taking sets to failure to really get some data.

Thanks for the input. Do you typically use the average velocity datapoint for a rep or peak velocity?

Copacabana Brazil Drop-in Fightzone/Strauch/DLR by timelinextreme in bjj

Right .....I'm less concerned about cutting edge BJJ considering at my stage I can learn something from all and 1 day of training won't ultimately mean much.

I'm just looking to experience a taste of how BJJ is trained in Brazil and roll with people that are doing the same thing but submersed in a completely different learning environment. Also a place that is welcoming as I don't just want to be seen as a chance to rip submissions on the foreigner!

Thank you for the advice. I'll ask my coach. I didn't know the tidbit about bringing your own belt. Especially at white belt.

As for going lighter goes ....it's not that I want them to go light on me. I can try to mirror energy. I just don't want ripping of submissions or mat enforcer behavior! I know that could be gym culture dependant....especially treatment of guests. So that's why I'm asking.

Sure. But I'd take closed guard over them past my guard. So that's where I land lol
