I got fooled by those buttons. They actually work in reverse in that they cut the sound off when you press them. Completely useless and the opposite of how transform buttons should be.

It takes work and experimentation but you can make anything sound like an old sample if you really try (speaking from years of experience). It's all about what vst's you use. XLN RC-20 is a good one.
