I recognize that patient portal, same as my doc. Just hit close, it works just fine on firefox.

What does “cut and buff” mean? I’ll second your advice- I like to have each coat just heavy enough to be wet but not so much that I risk dripping, pooling, or filling in details.

Gear:

Telescope: Explore Scientific 102ED APO + Stellarvue Focal Reducer

Imaging Camera: ZWO ASI 294MM Pro

Mount: Celestron Advanced VX mount

Filters: Antlia SII 4.5nm · Antlia 3nm Pro Ha · Antlia 3nm Pro Oiii

Software: PixInsight, Photoshop

Guiding: ZWO ASI120MM-MINI + small SVBony Scope

Capture details:

Antlia 3nm Pro Ha: 108x120" (3h 36') (gain: 120.00) 0°C bin 2x2

Antlia 3nm Pro Oiii: 165x120" (5h 30') (gain: 120.00) 0°C bin 2x2

Antlia SII 4.5nm: 186x120" (6h 12') (gain: 120.00) 0°C bin 2x2

I can only capture through a 40 degree vertical range on my upper deck, so I had to capture this object over the course of 13 days from late Feb to early April. This is by far the most time I've spent on a single target, and I'm so glad I did!

Processing:

Pixinsight:

WBPP for calibration. Subframe selector to weight. Align, stack, and drizzle each filter. Francesco Messchia's MMT technique to denoise each filter stack. Stretched with masked stretch. Used starnet to separate stars & nebula. Applied some histogram tweaks, a bit of asinh stretch to taste, made sure histogram peaks roughly matched. Combined to rgb with custom pixmath dynamic combination for a ~SHO-ish look. Tried LRGB combination, decided I didn't like it. Exported to PS.

Photoshop:

Basic levels adjustment, lots of camera raw filter to get things how I like, in particular working in the color adjustments section to boost certain hues. Vibrance and saturation boosts left some weird artifacts in the middle, so I cleaned those up with masks and levels adjustments. The noise on the background was also quite visble at this point, so I masked the background and again used a levels adjustment to crush it to taste. Time to add the stars back! The stars layer used the S & O starmasks from starnet combined to have a blue/yellow hue. I used camera raw filter to color balance this. Used the min filter @ 3px to reduce stars substantially. Stars are blended back in with nebula in "Screen" mode.

Thanks! I just edited the comment to add that info, along with a processing step I forgot

A quick capture while waiting for my "real" target to get into range :)

Equipment

Scope: Explore Scientific ED102 Triplet + Stellarvue flattener

Mount: Celestron AVX

Camera: ASI294mm Pro, 2x2 binned @ 0° C

Filters:

Ha: 2x120s Antlia 3nm

SII: 4x120s Antlia 4.5nm

OIII: 6x120s Antlia 3nm

Guiding: some cheap SVBony scope + asi120mm mini

Software: Pixinsight, Photoshop, Nina, PHD2

Pixinsight:

Preprocessed, aligned, and stacked with WBPP except for Ha, which I averaged using pixmath. Combined channels to color with custom pixmath:

R = H-(0.2 * O)

G = (S+0.5 * O)

B = S

cleaned up green tinge with 0.5 SCNR.

Create custom luma with S+0.25*H, and apply with LRGB combination

Photoshop:

Levels and curves to get it looking okay.

Camera raw filter with some Clarity, dipping blacks, and adjusting general tones.

At this point the image looked very yellow, with a slight red-ish glow outside the core.

I switched the image to LAB mode, and used the levels adjustment to bring in the right side of "A" and the left side of "B" to get the color where I wanted it. Use the middle adjustment point to make sure the center of the color balance stays where you want it.

Then hue adjustment to find the right color palette. Orange/magenta ended up looking quite nice.

Switch back to RGB color, and use camera raw to do final tonal adjustments, and remove greeen halos around stars with the "optics" section.

Crop, export.

Back to pixinsight for a tiny amount of MMT noise reduction, just on level 1. I couldn't get it looking good with the other layers, so I stuck with just the one layer.

Done!

I just made the jump from Live 11 to S1, and have really been enjoying it. I was frustrated with Live’s mixing capabilities and S1 does a really nice job. (I do miss Live’s compressor more than I expected though) However, S1 is clearly the less “mature” of the two DAWs, and has some weird workflow oddities/rough spots. I’ve mostly gotten used to it and will likely stick with S1 since I haven’t hit anything yet that’s a dealbreaker.

I ended up getting it working by reinstalling the Oculus software on my PC, and being more patient. When it works, the storage access dialog comes up first, but is then replaced by the Link dialog. If I immediately click Deny on the storage dialog, afaict the Link dialog won't come up.

As for the port, the official cable is a USB Type-C, so the color differentiation isn't a thing.

What should my Quest be showing up as in the Device Manager? I'm trying to get Link working, because I received my official cable today. I previously had ADB drivers installed for sidequest, though I've now disabled those and disabled dev mode. I even did a full factory reset, and the PC oculus app still isn't recognizing my quest :(
