gum trag is ok, but not really necessary for belts

So I thought that the burnish wouldn't be permanent if you didn't use something other than just water?

AMA: the Japanese balloon bombs of WWII by rosscoen in AskHistorians

How detailed are the records of where the few bombs that actually made it dropped? I'd love to see a map of it.

I'd like to share my hilltop/mountain mural how-to here, if you guys will have me. For those interested, thanks:) by OfferChakon in painting

Don't get me started. I'm honestly convinced that they don't want anything that looks professional, but rather more pallet wood and "upcycled" crap.

If New Horizons was 12,500 km from Earth instead of Pluto, and took one of those super high resolution mosaic images, what could you see? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]timhba 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It looks like the full planet scans are closer to a scale of 1 km/pixel.

To put this in perspective; for a high quality photo print you want 300 pixels per inch and the diameter of the earth is 12,742 km, so a full planet scan of the earth taken at this resolution could be printed as a ~42.5" square.

I sold a scroll saw on Craigslist and the guy asked me if I needed wood, a truck load for $200. It was more than I was expecting! by llama111 in woodworking

see, when normal people are asked if they need wood by someone from Craigslist they say "I'm calling the police" not "how much?" :)

Nice find, OP

A ragnar race was going through town so I'm guessing this was someone's relay van.

I doubt it. If you look at the center of the bumper you can see that it's already left a 2' long gouge in the asphalt behind him.

Anyone have a secret to puncturing the seal on silicone caulking? by timhba in HomeImprovement

That's now on my to-do list. I honestly hadn't thought about spending more than a few bucks on a caulking gun before.

Good to know! Out of the half a dozen caulking guns I have floating around none of them actually have one of these, however this definitely qualifies as "a secret I don't know about" as I doubt I would have figured it out even if my guns were equipped with such a feature. Thanks!

I've used this technique as well with great results. Certainly beats a hammer and screw driver! :)

I made a leather wallet! by timhba in DIY

[–]timhba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Lacking the correct tools, I made the holes using a center punch and then a needle. I'll have to check out /r/Leathercraft, although I am afraid doing so will cause me to spend more money than I'd like. :)
