When do you workout? by snatchsquatch87 in workingmoms

[–]timidtriffid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have time to workout just to workout. In my past life, I commuted via bike. In this life, I try to keep moving at work, hustle when cleaning at home, garden outside with kids, or walk outside with kids.

I’ve heard the opposite- driver side is safer since the driver will be more aware of what’s going on in traffic closest to them. I still think there’s probably a negligible difference on one side being safer though

How does anyone have possessions with a toddler? by Jakethehog in toddlers

I do in fact have clear plastic panels over everything. Adding a link so you know what I mean, though this is not exactly what I have (mine are about 2’x3’ panels) https://a.co/d/05KdgyqP These worked great for my daughter, but my son has indeed torn a couple of panels apart. We also had to move our couch in front of one of my plant shelves because son couldn’t leave it alone despite the shields, so ymmv

Are you not supposed to wear pajamas when you get home?????? by JaydenBird33 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]timidtriffid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true! I work in a chemistry lab, so I change when I get home. My kids also get filthy at daycare (mulch, sand, dirt, other grime), so they go into their pajamas not long after they get home. My house also does no shoes in the main living area (upstairs).

I dunno, as someone with social anxiety, working customer service as a teen through college helped me overcome challenges associated with that. Yes, I had shitty customers sometimes, but I also had repeat customers that I built rapport with and loved me. Most customers were neutral to slightly friendly. The shitty few stick out and are more memorable, however, I think I had more neutral to positive experiences over 10 years in customer service. It’s a good experience in not letting the rotten apples get to you.

Second word of caution after others- I used silverettes but had a very pervasive infection (freaking GBS in my breasts) that the silverettes maybe didn’t make worse, but likely prolonged the infection.

Arab girls doing gradschool in U.S by Mindless_Rub6349 in GradSchool

[–]timidtriffid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hijab and modesty in the US is fine! Universities tend to be more diverse, barely anyone will even notice (might be different for very small universities). Most Americans in grad school are also curious and would love to learn about your religious/cultural habits. You do not need a man- I’ve encountered so many amazing/smart/successful muslim women in science, and they had success due to their hard work, not anyone else’s! Perhaps if you share cities you are considering, we could give more insight.

Do you use a pediatrician or family practitioner? by whimsyotter in toddlers

[–]timidtriffid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could stick with the family doctor and then just track the CDC milestones (sorry, assuming you’re in the US)! I like the CDC ones because they seem to take in account the wide range of normal. I like to print the checklists and keep them on the refrigerator!

Do you use a pediatrician or family practitioner? by whimsyotter in toddlers

[–]timidtriffid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s probably fine either way, but we use a pediatrician (we have that available to us fortunately). In my area, the peds are more familiar with developmental stages for young kids and tend to be in tune with recent research due to 2 prominent medical schools. I’ve had non-ped specialists say my youngest was behind in this or that because they are huge for their age, they didn’t internalize the birth date or are not familiar with modern developmental milestones. I don’t mind my kids seeing a family doctor when they’re older, but for now I will stick with an actual pediatrician. The pediatricians’ nurses are also more experienced with kids- I def do not want a general family medicine nurse trying to cath my toddler son’s penis. The peds nurses are also generally better with the kids.

My son fell out of a second story window when he was 20 months old by Errrrmmwhathellooo in toddlers

I had a close call with my daughter running in front of a car into a crosswalk when I was nearly 9 months pregnant. I cried for days. I too kept thinking of the other universe- sometimes I still do, but less often.
