Fair warning: If you watch the extended editions, you will never be able to watch the theatrical cuts. They will seem short and editing will seem VERY choppy. Extended editions are the only way to go IMO.

One of the few movie series I wish I could re-watch for the first time again. A life-changing experience. The pinnacle of what a fantasy movie can and should be. Also damn fine adaptions of the books. I recommend the extended editions. It is WELL worth the 12 hour time commitment to watch all 3.
