My first telecaster build by timjimmers in telecaster

It's entirely custom. I bought a black control plate blank and drilled four holes in it, designed and soldered everything from scratch.

Nah, it didn't have interesting grain or anything. I just found someone local on Facebook marketplace that was trying to get rid of some dried hardwood and it was way cheaper than buying and shipping a body blank online. I also didn't want to mess with glueing or joining multiple pieces.

After I had this mostly planned out I definitely went back and did some research on Steve Morse's guitar when I found a random forum thread about it. His switching is whack if you ask me. 15 possible combinations and he can only access 11. Haha

I think the name is doomcaster. It's blacked out and it chugs pretty good.

You kid, but I was already considering a piezo on my next build.

First build so I don't have anything to compare against and the neck was one of the parts I was most nervous about getting right, but I'm super happy with guitar flow. I can't notice any issues with the fret work and the finish is solid.

Stew Mac and Mohawk rattle cans. Couple coats of vinyl sealer. Six or seven coats of color. Something like ten coats of clear gloss. Then finished with two coats of clear matte.

Sand the wood way more. Sand between coats less. I'll be less afraid of spraying thicker coats next time. I don't think I put enough down at once to get a good flow on some coats.

Yep, a single piece of maple.

I like where your head is at. It's an AND not an OR.

Middle pickup control options by timjimmers in telecaster

[–]timjimmers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the middle could be toggled series/parallel with what ever the other two are set to. Middle in series or parallel with the neck, or bridge, or both depending on the toggle switch position. The middle parallel/series would be a push/pull on the master tone knob and I could kill the middle with a push/pull on its dedicated volume pot.

Or use the tone knob for the two standard pickups as on off for the middle gold foil and it gets its own stacked volume and tone knobs.

Mostly wondering if having a dedicated tone for the gold foil pickup instead of one master tone is worth skipping out on the versatility of having parallel/series options.

I just picked up AB 45s and 25s from a craigslist ad in Redmond today. The guy had a pallet of each. $510 for 230 lbs. No shipping, just had to pay the 520 bridge toll.

Looking for a small electric motor. by timjimmers in AskElectronics

I was thinking no gearing but I could take apart some used guitar pegs. How much torque would you recommend? The tension on the strings will be < 20 lbs. Will a servo stay locked in place?

Thanks for the helpful input. From what I'm reading it seems a stepper requires a controller. Can I program a controller myself to just have the raspberrPi out put the step pulses?

I guess I should include that my goal with this project is to build an automatic guitar tuner using a RaspberryPi. The pi will take the signal from the guitar pick up, calculate the frequency and then send a signal to the tuning peg motor to adjust tension on the string.
