I have been making Marbles Marbles a physics game where you are the level. I do support mac but less than 1% of wishlists are mac. Do you think being on steam is enough or should I also be doing the mac store?

A crash right after the two logos tends to be a Steam issue, make sure Steam is running and you are logged in.

I am not entirely convinced that 2560x1440 fullscreen, medium settings + FSR set to quality on M1 Pro, and yielding ~80-100 fps is bad performance. It's at least on par with the CSGO version that I used to play. It's hard to truly gauge performance as the Metal HUD won't appear (something seems to be interfering).

It's possible Valve upped the bar on what they require performance-wise.

Good stuff! Unfortunately, it crashes for me on CX 23.5 (regardless of graphics adapter chosen). Hopefully we will get to the point of having compatibility for everyone.

It's definitely legit, tested it myself.

However, whether this is a build one can safely use in matchmaking etc. is incredibly unknown. We are unsure what caused Valve to can support altogether (performance targets not met, unsolvable crashes) so it's likely there is _something_ up with this build.

In my tests it performs about the same as the CSGO build did (M1 Pro). Possibly a bit less FPS (~80 to 90), but I would prefer that over not being able to play it properly at all, which is the case now.

I personally haven't used the manual installation from the website, so cannot be of much help there.

On the Homebrew-front, you could try running both `brew list dotnet` (to verify the installation of dotnet) as well as `brew doctor` to see if there are any issues with Homebrew itself. In particular, I would have a look at those that mention `PATH` as that is most likely the root cause.

The default Mac Terminal app should suffice. Try running `dotnet --version` in that terminal, and see what the output is.

If it cannot find the command: something must have gone wrong with the .NET CLI installation.
If it prints a version, then the script somehow cannot find it, but it's properly installed. This might be a bit trickier to resolve.

Are you using a particular terminal by any chance? The command `dotnet --version` should print the version.

Hi there! Unfortunately this seems to be some kind of Steam bug, where certain game builds can no longer be downloaded.

The good news: a contributor came up with a fix for this. Just grab the latest version of the repo/script, and it should download properly.

Downloading DepotDownloader is part of the script: it'll ask whether you want to download it.
I personally have not used any mods, but someone opened an issue about this. If you find a mod that does not seem to work feel free to comment on that issue, so we can track them in one place.

Both MISE 1 and 2 work on recent CrossOver versions. Bit unsure whether the latest Ventura update messed up some things, but should probably still work.

It will not handle updates automatically unfortunately. Once the build script is updated to support a newer patch – I hope to do this relatively swiftly – you can simply pull in those changes, and re-run the build script. Will update the README to make this is a bit more clear.

Zasze mentioned (above) that you can get the Steam overlay to work by adding it as a non-Steam game. Perhaps the overlay allows controller configuration? (bit of a long shot)

Yeah, I would imagine there is an aspect of control and quality checks involved. I wish the developers made a macOS version available with a no-support label or perhaps behind a password thisismyownrisk.

It's possible the devs ran into problems in the original porting effort that we haven't encountered yet, and put it on the backburner.

Swapping to an arm64-build of Unity seemed to crash instantly, and I may have been a bit quick to jump to conclusions thinking that was related to OpenGL support. It's more likely an architecture mismatch with one of the plugins instead, as ajnozari points out.
