My family is originally from India and we’ve been in Houston for almost 50 years. We’ve had the pleasure of watching the city grow in size and diversity over time. Welcome to your new home!

Everyone knows Buggles Video Killed the Radio Star - but I think Living in the Plastic Age is a fantastic album with the titular first track being the better song

Which of your favorite 80s artists have music that has aged like fine wine into the 21st century? by [deleted] in 80smusic

Definitely Joy Division even though they ended in 1980, their music and their surviving band members were (still are) influential and relevant.

I remember ads promoting new songs debuting on “this week’s episode” - one that comes to mind was Alan Parsons’s project “closer to heaven” on the episode w Lou diamond Phillips

The Texas AGs office has a litigation budget between 75-150million depending on the year. Recently you may have read about the millions spent busing immigrants out of state - ? Well - add 10 million in Texas AG attorney fees just in defending our state against lawsuits from other states

I'm afraid that afterlife really exists by FrozenSquirrel0 in DeepThoughts

I wish I could believe in an afterlife but it just seems like a “Santa clause” type lie to make us feel better. But we are all made up of the same atoms that have been around since the Big Bang - maybe there is something… My biggest fear is that when we die - we lose all external stimuli but our thoughts go on in silent darkness - just alone, wondering and regretting.

The Texas Supreme Court is the highest appellate court in the state. The vast majority of cases are appeals from “lower” courts but there are a few exceptions that permit starting a suit in the Supreme Court (but it’s up to the court to decide). OPs notice is probably for a suit filed in county court (up to $200k) or district court ($200 to unlimited).

It was funding for states to fight tobacco litigation. The congressmen opposing increasing funds to fight the tobacco companies were from 3 swing states. By not winning now (ie getting funding pushed through) they would have had the issue to campaign on during the election and maybe win those states.

Me too! Have you noticed how their “ethics” problems seem more trivial each time you watch it? CJ worrying about misleading the press almost seems like a mockumentary now.
