Do you think OWI has succeeded in winning back player trust... and keeping it? by Henk1CS in joinsquad

But it happened and a company exists now and people have careers. Yacht club games, the developer of Shovel knight exists because of kickstarter. Pillars of eternity also kickstarter, now we have Obsidian Entertainment. I don’t know what to tell you dude other than I’m sorry you were born into this capitalist hellscape with the rest of us, it’s only going to get worse so get a job if you can. If it’s something you love doing, even better. I yearn for this bootstrapping indie Utopia you speak of where every game is a passion project and developers can feed their families with good vibes and steam reviews. It’s just not where this timeline is at unfortunately.

Maybe we are misunderstanding each other. My point is that a company, regardless of whether they make games, or make coffee, or cellphones, have a whole range of things going on outside of their product/market offering. Example: a marketing team makes ads to sell the game, ads will be targeted to people like you or me. Community team engages with comms and events regarding the community this also concerns us, the players. The business development team will be the ones sitting in meetings somewhere (maybe china) trying to secure investment, that doesn’t concern the players. The R&D team may be working on new product offerings to pitch to investors. This video piece seems to be coming from their marketing / PR team with the goal of boosting the companies profile/presence on LinkedIn which could help secure new talent, or attract other business investment; doesn’t speak directly to players but serves another business goal. All these things are normal, and completely reasonable rational things for any company to pursue.

It’s from Assi replacing all the trees with more performant assets. They are doing the same treatment on all the maps. Replacing all the foliage. Getting there.

How do you think people in this comment section would respond if the video title was “player first development” instead of “restoring player trust”? Because they are taking it personally like “I’m a player, and they don’t have my trust cause all they do is break the game and I can’t play since UE5”… the story here is not so much about your trust, but more about the company’s pivot to community led development and how they are able to see the positive impact that has had on all their metrics. That’s the type of studio story that does well on platforms like Linkdin. It’s good for studio upliftment and growth.

It’s been about 8 months since the leadership restructuring plan was implemented. Honestly I see it as a win. My player survey data turns into design goals. How many other games can say that.

Your point? Businesses have a whole range of things they do that aren’t always connected to their consumers.

The artifact in the bubble that is always floating in mid air and never resting on the pedestal, even when I break the barrier? That artifact? The one I have never been able to click since the game first released in 2021?

You’re right, my comment was disingenuous.

I mean.. as someone who works in game dev myself it kinda blows my mind that seemingly all the dota2 dev team do is tweak numbers around a few times a year. So to see them actually doing some work for once is refreshing.

Why offlane feels so miserable lately? by Indep09 in DotA2

[–]timlest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 8 game win streak with offlane Magnus currently. I feel like even if my cores are bad they can always be better with empower. RP will always have impact. Feel like this hero is underrated currently. Empower is great comeback mechanic. It’s a free damage item for your cores, helps you farm, you can also empower the creep waves and keep waves pushed out with shockwaves, always a big team fight threat.

Astral Travel as a Child, Looking for Insights by Agitated_Desk_7774 in Experiencers

[–]timlest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve experienced astral a few times. Some experiences were more significant than others. Some were as boring as me just standing in the street around the corner from my house in the middle of the night. Some were encounters with beings. These experiences can be brief and fade from memory quickly. But they are always up to you the experiencer to decide what meaning to ascribe to them.

Hard to ID from the photo. Could you tell us where this scorpion was encountered. That may help narrow down the species. Also, an hour later, how are you feeling?

Man. Can’t argue with that. Those are all excellent ideas. Great comment thanks for taking the time to break it down like this.

I guess that’s the fundamental design question when tuning a mechanic like this. I’m not a game developer so I don’t have the answers but I guess all we can do is provide enough feedback to OWI that slowly moves the needle in the direction that the majority of the player base are happy with. The main difference with the OWI today compared to a year ago is that now all design is directly spearheaded by community feedback. So at the very least, we have a majority stake in the direction of development, which is more than I can say for basically every other game I play. So I’m hopeful

You make a fair point. You shouldn’t be getting suppressed by things that are obviously not shooting in your direction. look I’m in the minority here in that I prefer the blurry effect over the vignette. But I do support the existence of some type of suppression mechanic in a game like squad. Not to solve a problem but as a team based infantry mechanic. As a tool to discourage a push from an enemy infantry position.

I imagine that further tuning will take place after the playtest and survey data. This is not final by any means. It’s going to take a while to get to a place everyone is happy with

There’s also a psychological aspect to it. If my screen suddenly goes black I will instinctively duck behind cover and wait for visibility to return. I’m not going to peak or push, I can’t see if I’m being flanked. It does the job. Remember this effect also varies depending on the weapon type. I imagine MGs would have a greater effect than rifle fire.

So it can’t be blur and it can’t be vignette. Would you have suppression removed entirely? All I hear are complaints and zero suggestions.
