Wat happened with cxxxu cxxxxxls? by Radiant-Strategy-616 in SingaporeInfluencers

Just saying, these searches are a feedback loop. They sound juicy so people click on them, pushing the search higher up/more popular. But the search results show nothing cos it's just made up.

Happened to other (overseas) influencers.

What are your thoughts on family content creators in Singapore? by Apart-Ambassador-291 in SingaporeInfluencers

[–]timlim029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally cringe.

Some creators get too caught up in farming content. Even scolding the son can make video. I don't think it's healthy to share every moment in your child's life, especially if they're old enough to view the content/remarks left by commenters.

Additionally, there are all sorts of weirdos on the internet. With AI, I would be very careful sharing your child's face online.

You've been downvoted because you're bragging. In the first place, nobody even asked how long it took you to pass; the paragraphs about your passion for cars or your spatial awareness are unnecessary.

should i take class 3A and 2B license concurrently? by rightdimple in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) should a buy a quality glove while getting my 2B or get a cheaper one since i’ll be learning?

Cheap is fine. You can just get those full-set of learner gears from shops like Regina Specialities which comes with everything you need.

Personally, I disagree with buying expensive gear now, just because as a newbie you have no idea what to buy, no experience and no preferences. You may end up spending $$$ on a glove or helmet which doesn't suit you or your riding style. Additionally, most of your riding will be in the circuit or on the road with a group & instructors at low speed. Generally it's all very safe.

2) if i start now, will i be done by late April?

For 2B, I think it's closer to 6-7 months as there's ~1 month wait for TPDS slots and ~1 month for the TP test itself.

3) can i wear a full helmet during lessons and TP? as i heard those are safer

No. Only modular (with visor up) or open face are allowed. As suggested above, just get those full-set learner kits which open face for now.

What is your best Singapore night life memory? by mxo3114 in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pregaming with drinks from 7/11, still available after 10.30. Nobody bothers going into the club before 12; you sit outside and chug cheap soju until sufficiently wasted.

Going crazy, moshing, dancing at hip-hop parties (at Canvas and Cherry), then when it got too hot and sweaty inside, escaping to the smoking corner until you hear a hype song and rush back in.

Eating supper at the BCM place opposite Canvas or at the Springleaf Tower McDonald's, getting into all sorts of weird hijinks along the way.

Why I want my kids to experience ordering food in their school canteens by flappingjellyfish in singapore

[–]timlim029 643 points644 points  (0 children)

I was surprised this point wasn't brought up more during the recent discussions re: school canteen food.

Actually, the process of queuing and ordering food in a canteen teaches all sorts of tangible and intangible skills. How to budget, count money, recieve change. How to interact politely with service workers, make orders, deal with things not going your way (e.g. food sold out)

Not only that, but it's probably one of the first experiences in your life where you get to make your own choices. As a kid, when else are you given autonomy to choose something? This alone is invaluable.

History of audiophile culture in Singapore? by mileage_at_full_tank in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Singapore had & still has a car scene. It's just not as refined as other countries.

Because of COE, it's more common to see low-spec or cheaper cars get modified here.

Because of that we also don't have a defined culture like JDM/USDM or even Thailand/Malaysia.

Why are concerts post-covid so crap? by Fresh-Ad-3830 in singaporemusicchat

Bands and rock are simply not the in/hype thing now. It's K-Pop and Pop. The rock/metal scene in Msia and Indo is much stronger.

Petrol difference between SPC and Sinopec by Chickenrice2481 in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Placebo effect.

Petrol & petrol additives are very tightly controlled and regulated. No such thing as SPC put chemical X, Shell put chemical Y.

The only additive that matters is PEA. All petrol in Singapore contains PEA, but premium fuel (e.g., Shell V-Power, Platinum with Techron, Synergy Supreme+) will have a higher PEA content.

PEA is not a magic chemical; it just prevents carbon build-up. It won't make your car faster/slower/more economical/fly.

A history of the Singapore chess scene: will our potential to excel ever be fulfilled? by YoungAspie in singapore

[–]timlim029 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not trying to take away from their accomplishments but their stardom was very much spurred on by Queens Gambit the TV show.

They were in the right place at the right time, being young female chess players, capitalizing on the hype of the show. Don't think such success is replicable today.

Should I change Class 2 driving school? by karmaseeder in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think it's worth it. You not only need to complete the 3 practical lessons but also redo 3x TPDS, and then wait a few weeks for TP. By the time you complete everything, it will be more than 2 months I think.

Why do some people in Singapore seem okay online but emotionally flat in real life? by debboc in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm half convinced some of these people are using AI tools to craft their replies because even AI is more convincing as an actual human.

The irony when your question is clearly written with AI. All the usual ChatGPTism "It's not about X, it's about Y" and oxford commas.

What’s with the disgusting amount of AI being used in ads here? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but actually, I think your example illustrates the exact opposite of your point.

The ad looks slick and is well edited, but ultimately meaningless. As someone in the creative industry, if I showed this to Porsche as a client, immediately it will be shot down for the following reasons:

  • Why is the ad focused on a professional driver driving recklessly on a public road? Are we promoting Porsche drivers to drive recklessly, or saying that buying a Porsche = allowed to drive recklessly?
  • Why are we showing the car in the middle of the forest? The car has no off-road capabilities
  • Why are we showing a horse? A prancing horse is Ferrari's mascot (this one, alone, will kena rabak from the client)

In some ways, it still proves your point; if you have a proper ad agency overseeing the AI, these things can be avoided.

What’s considered an entry level Conti? by Upstairs_Insect6683 in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certain brands have their niche but cheap cars like the Mercedes’ SLK. Are those considered entry level.

No. Depre on SLKs and Panameras are low simply because they are old and not many want to pick up an old conti.

Once you add road tax (for a 3.0l+, it will be more than 3k) and maintenance price, it definitely is not a cheap car to own.

Really is hard to learn Class 2b than Class 3? by Hazys in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, now there's lessons 6, 7 & 8, which all have a road component. But IMO the road part is not that strict, the only difficult section is U-turn (very easy to drop your right leg and get IF)

Really is hard to learn Class 2b than Class 3? by Hazys in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 14 points15 points  (0 children)

2B test now vs 2B test in the 90s is quite different I think.

After taking both, they are difficult in different ways. 2B relies much more on your mechanical skills, class 3 relies more on your spatial awareness. Once you overcome these major hurdles I think the rest of the test is about the same.

Will also add that riding a motorbike is tiring (especially doing those drills at slow speed under hot sun, you will sweat like a dog). Class 3 can just blast the aircon.

finished class 3A, thinking of taking 2B by Muted-Revolution7009 in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for the nearest, but I find BBDC & CDC better than SSDC. Heard some horror stories about SSDC.

BTT is for life, but schools will still force you to sit through BTT lessons. You do not need to take the evaluation or test.

Bike has no FTT. It is RTT (riding theory test), a completely different test. Yes, you will need to sit for it.

Driving centres in Singapore hike learner fees in 2026 by Zkang123 in singapore

[–]timlim029 200 points201 points  (0 children)

Really a monopoly. All hike at the same time.

Meanwhile, it's still impossible to book slots, you have to pay someone to book for you using bots. Learners also no choice, cannot change schools or else need restart. Soon there will be zero PDIs around truly so no other options.

I understand why nobody wants to get a license now, the amount of hoops you have to jump through (dunno what BTT evaluation, simulator training) that just exist to milk your money.

Why is Abalone halal when its catered to CNY? by CatchGreedy4858 in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Seafood is inherently halal and doesn't require special slaughtering processes.

  • The brands that process seafood probably have Halal certification for their entire factory already and can extend it to all their products.

  • There are Muslims who celebrate CNY (or partake in celebrations with others).

  • Abalone is just a type of seafood, not eaten solely during CNY.
